MONTREAL, Que, Sept. 30-An increase of seventeen percent in messages carried during the last two weeks of August, ,with the first two weeks of the |same month is reported by the Canadian National Teiegraphs, since . telegraph communications are regarded as the "nerve centre of commerce."

The report ls taken as being a sign of further improvement in conditions generally. The increase amounts to several thousand in- divldual messages of varying length. Montreal and dstrict is not the only district affected. There is reason to believe, officials say, that the whole of Canada is to some degree affected by this new index to better times.
