Rink Opexinc.—A very large number of skarere attended the opening of Halle- boro Rink last evening. The ice was in excellent condition. Galbraith’s band rendered good music. About nine o’clock the news of Gen. French’s victory was given out by Capt. Moore when cheer upon cheer was raised. The band then played “Rule Britannia.” Rather an auspicious opening.

Bapty Burnep.—A lad named Reggie Harrington, employed in J. D, Taylor’s printing office, was badly burned yesterday morning. It seems thatfe was lighting the fire with benzine when an explosion toek piace. The bottom was blown out of the, can and the - lad’s clothing took fire. Before the flames could be ex- tinguished the boy was severely burned about the hande and neck. The little fellow bad medical aid as soon as possible, and was eubseqvent taken to the P. E. Island Hospital. An aiarm of fire was sounded, but beyond the burning of some files of job printing no damege was dove
Sr. Dunstan’s Carmepral.— The special service in St. Dunstan’s Cathedral in celebration of the beginning of the closing year of the century, was attended by a congregation which filled the spacious edifice. The cervice was most impressive. His Lordship Biskop Macdonald cele- brated Mase, assisted by Fathers Jobneton and Connolly as deacon and sub-deacon, and Dr. Morrison as High Priest. Hie Lordship also preached, speaking very strongly regarding the evil of intemperance. At the close of His Lordsbip’s remarks a large proportion of the congregation signi- fied their willisgness to abstain from the use of imtoxicants as a beverage during the year. The wusical portion of the service was under the direction of Mr. Blanchard, and some members of the Leayuwe of the Cross assisted in the sing- ing. Miss Maisie Coady assisted on the violin, and Professor Watts gave selec- tions on the clarionet and organ. The deco- rations were the tame as at Christmas.
