grand concert, in which our leading singers will take part, is to be held in the Lyceum, on next Monday evening.

A Goop Iypucement.—We understand that ata meeting of the Regatta Committee held last evening it was decided to offer a first prize of $75 for tae principal event of the day, the four-oared shell race, as an indncement to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick oarsmen to take part. It is also proposed to have two sail-boat races, one under twenty feet keel and the other under nineteen feet. It is expected that five four-oared crews will take part in this regatta. The programme and advertise- ment will appear next weck.

The Island Team at Quebec, Good Work at the Shifts.

The P. E. Island team did the ‘A” shift in the splendid time of five minutes and six seconds.

The ‘*B” shift was done by eleven minutes and one second.

The Montreal team did the *‘A”’ shift in twenty minutes, and gave up the ‘*B” shift in disgust.

After they had finished tke shifting, the P. E. Island team were highly compliment- ed on account of the rapidity, precision and neatness of their operations.

The rumor that the Government has offer- ed to compromise the settlement of the Bridgewater case is incorrect. All that has been offered is that the Government will agree to admit statements of facts which are not disputed, in order to lessen the expeuse of evidence. The claimant must, of course, abide by the decision of the Courts when tendered.

New York, Sept. 12. Dunn & Russell report 26 Canadian fail- ures for the last seven days and 23 for the corresponding week last year. Bradstreets report 22 Canadian failures this week.

Knights of Pythias.

At the Knights of Pythias Grand Lodge session to-day it was decided to hold the next meeting at Springhill, N.S. In the afternoon, although a heavy rainstorm prevailed, a clam bake was held upon the river, which was a grand success.
