Rosinson tux Forcer.—H. G. Julien, of the Pinkerton agency, who was in St. John looking after Robinson, is now in Mexixo Writing to a friend in this city, who is directly concerned in the case, the detective mentions that the papers for the extradition of Robinson had not arrived, but were daily expected. Robinson is said to have been con- fined to his bed for several days suffering from dysentry, but is now recovering —St. John Globe.

This morning he was discovered ly- ing helpless, with both hind legs in one of the many holes recently dug by order of the City Surveyor for the purpose ot reconstruc‘ing the fence. The police precured a block and tackle, hoisted the animal out of his danger- ous position, and he walked slowly to Mr. Boirs stable,sore of limb avd hungry. THE adjourned hearing of the case of Mcelunnis for the alleged escape, took place before the Stipendiary Magistrate this morning. The law points were argued at length by the counsel on both sides, and the case stands adjourned until Thursday, when the Magistrate will tender his decision. The Counsel for Mclnnis practically conceded that there was no appeal from the decision of Messrs. Heard end Curtis, but urged that their proceed- ings were irregular in certain respects, and therefore McInnis being illegally in prison could not be guilty of an escape. The Counrel for the pro- secution argued that the Stipendiary had no power to examine into tiie procoed- ings before Messrs. Curtis and Heard, and inasmuch as there was a conviction regular on its face, it was sufficient to justify Mc- Innis’ imprisonment. The case was then adjourned until Thursday, the prisoner being again admitted to bail.

The Tribune performed an unparalleled feat on the morning of Grant’sdeath. The General died at 8.04, New York time. The news was received here in the Tribune office at 7.22, and in eight minutes by the clock, or 7.30, the first newsboy was on the street, shouting ‘‘7'ribmne extra, all about the death of Gen. Grant.” This extra edi tion contained two and three-fourths pages of matter concerning Gen. Grant, and only two and one-half columns of the matter had appeared in the first or regular edition of the paper. There is no parallel with this time. The Herald of Boston once reached the street in 13 minutes, but the Tribune beat that tims by five minutes.—Min-

On Wednesday last Miss Florenco M. Conn, twenty years old, died suddenly while visiting at Oconte. Her body was brought home the following day and arrangements made for the funeral services, which took place Saturday. _ Although apparently dead, the usual evidences of dissolution are not present, and she has not therefore, been interred. The body has at no time been rigid, nor the extre- mities cold, and no signe of decompostion are visible. Before her death she exacted a promise from her mother that if ever she should die suddenly her remaivs should be kept until her relatives were gertain of her death, as she had a horror of being buried alive. Her body will be kept unburied until death is esbablished beyond a doubt

The fact that this Society has secured its present large member- ship and won its way to public confidence, while having to contend with the misrepre- sentations of agents of other companies, and the dissatisfaction of a large number cf our citizens, caused by their unpleasant expres- sions a8 members of American Assessment Companies, is an evidence that the plan as offered the public only needs to be understood to be appreciated.
