~—The Conservative cause in West Prince has been immensely improved by the Hackett trial. The dirt and meanness on the part of promiaent grits has caused decent Liberals to admit that this is the last straw. They will sail in such com- pany no longer.

—Many are the compliments heard on all side from Grit and Tory of the manner in which Mr. Stewart conducted the election case in West Princem—ind }¢@ was ably assisted by Mr. McQuarrie. They had a splendid case and were up to the requirements of it. “Thrice armed is he who hath his quarrel just.”

—The Rev. John McMillan sermon in Chalmers Church, Sunday, in which he vigorously accused “Tan Maclaren” of rank heresy in his 00k, “ The Mind of the Master,” warning the people against the pernicious doctrine. This is one of the best advertisements that have been given the book.

—A meeting to further the cause of protection was last week held in London, at which resolutions were adopted urging preferential trade with the colovies and the founding of protection leagues in every British constituency. Lord Myrshan paid a tribute to Sir Charles Tupper, who, he declared, was “the father of preferential trade.”
