A Narrzow Escare —According to a despatch from Amherst, brakeman Wilber, of Casey's special, while shunting his train at Calhoun’s mills on Monday morning, had a narrow escape from losing his life. While stepping from one car to another he

Married IN Court.—A few days ago Clarence Chandler and Alma McPhee, who had been arrested for vagrancy, were married in the police court at Moncton by the Rev. J]. Kastburn Brown, Reformed church minister. The girl had been convicted and fined $25, in defaalt, four months in jail, but on being martied the pair were liberated and given a chance to live honorable lives,

INHUMAN TREATMENT.—A case of most inhuman treatment of a wife has come to light in Amherst, in which John Morse, | colored, figures as a most brutal creature.

It appears that a few days ago Mrs. Morse and a noted character named Agnes Bowles were having sume words near M orse’s house when the man Morse interfered and took the part of the woman Bow!es against his wife. Taking hold of his wife Morse ki-ked and, pounded her until her body was , black and blue with bruises. He then pulled her into. the house, pulled off her | clothes, and sat her on the red hot stove, holding her there un‘il her soreams attract- ed the neighbors living ‘thereto. He then threatened that if she said anything about the «ffair he would kill-her and would be hung for her. The woman was frightfully burned, and since the occurrence she has been in a very dangerous condition, her } recovery being considered doubtful. Saeaadpeennie
