They cannot expert or sell to Quebee and On- tario; but New Brunswick is net a bad customer ot their's even at present. The trade can be increased. We buy cattle, herses and sheep on the Island ; also oats, barley, potatoes, and the Island produces all these, and is increasing its growth of wheat. We expect to see its agricultural ‘products represented at our Exhibition, and some of its most successful manufac tures. There is a feeling in the Island, one that has long existed, that we should have frequent Maritime Exhibitions, and more social and commercial intercourse among the people of the sea than has yet prevailed. The Island is far ahead of us in agriculture, and the crops being very good this season, the people will feel in correspendingly good spirits. The Government stock farm is deing good work. it can boast of a fine herd of Shorthorns, and at present some excellent Ayrshires, which many think combine the qualities of milk-giving and beef-producing in very happy proportions. The farm has alse some good horses, which have done much to bring up the stock of the whole Island. There seems to be a constant growl about the expenses of the Agricultural College and Farm in Oniario, put the Island stock farm is managed with so much economy that we do net remember hearing any complaints on that head. Un- like most Government institutions, it is nearly self-sustaining. These facts show how important it is that we should have the benefit of a representation of Prince Edward Island products at eur Exhibition. We have no doubt that our wishes, in this respect, will be realized. We can safely assure such of our Island friends as will present themselves at our Exhibition that they will be heartily welcomed by the Gov- ernment and by our people generally.

The indigo of commerce is obtained by macerating the leaves of an Indian (and American) plant, from which blue powder is deposited, .which is then cellected and dried. It is new claimed, however, that Professor Baeyer’s method of producing artificial indigo has at length been found to be commercially practicable. The idigo is obtained from isatine chloride, which, in turn, is made from benzol.

A very efiective effort is being put forth by the citizens of Montreal to have the coming ‘‘ Dominion Exhibition” in that city made an attractive one. Twenty thousand dollars in prizes are offered, new buildings have been erected, the track of the Occidental Railway is to be extended to the grounds ; power will be furnished to set machinery in motion, ard a collec- tion of Manitoba products and Indian curiosities is expected. It is !ntended that the Fair shall be left open for ten days, viz., from the 14th to the 24th September. Arrangements are being made with the railways and steamers to run cheap Excur- sions during the Exhibition, and to issue return tickets at reduced rates.

Tux Princess Lovisz and Prince Leo- pold arrived at Moville on the 8th inst. They hada short and extremely pleasant passage. A despatch to the Daily Telegragh says Prince Leopold was obliged to appear on deck on erntches, and that ‘ the Prin- cess, though in fair health, suffers some- what from the injuries received some time ago. H.R. 1. was, howe®er, on deck every day of the voyage. There was very little intercourse between the other cabin passengers and their Royai fellow travellers, but Col. MeNeill and Capt. Cellins, and other members of the suite, iningled very freely with the cabin passengers, and threvgh them additional particulars were learned of the health and feelings of their Royal passengers. It is beyond doubt that the Princess expresses warm attachment to Canada, speaks highly of the country, and intends returning at an early date.”’
