Orientation week was obviously in full swing last Thursday : night when The Web stepped on stage at the Student Union Burn. ‘ .

Playing to a full house, the band showed the advantageous results oftwo years on the road, by delivering a solid, entertain- ing three-hour show. Vocalist Holly Davidson was impressive in both her vocal ability and stage presence. Holly is supported in the band by John, Radul on keyboards, Kris Abbott handling the guitar work, drummer Jay Soetermans, and bassist Wil MeGonegal. ‘ .

Holly Davidson. Kris Abbott and John Radul formed The Web in Hamilton about two years ago. Band members have. eomeand gone during their years on the road, but the original three have continued to remain the nucleus of the group and share credits on the fifteen or so originals in The Web’s reper- toire. ‘

The Web mixed a top-forty show with a fair selection oft alternative musicsThe artists coileredincluded Katrina and the Waves. Madonna,'Tears for Fears, The B-52’s, Prince, The Flying Lizards, Devo, and more. -A constantly full dance floor' seemed to testify to the crowd‘s approval.

Although the band has tightened up considerably since their last appearance on campus, a few problems still exist. The band’s mix sometimes suffers during critical moments (eg. the. bass riff in “Obsession”). Guitarist Kris Abbott still suffers from some shyness on the stage and this is reflected somewhat tn the volume of her instrument and in her stage presence. She overcame thisfshyness, however, and loosened up after_the opening set. These problems were very minor and ,took little away froma greatshow. ' '

To sum up, The Wehput it all together in tight cover tunes, interesting originals (“Unpublished Passion” deserving speCial mention), some good choreography, and, an impressive overall nna e.
