Have you ever wondered what the university plans to do with the tract of land between it and Towers? (Did you know that the university owns this land?) The plot of land is des- tined to become an arboretum (hopefully).

Now only one question remains: What is an arbore- tum?

According to Mr. Don Coles Director of the Physical Plant of UPEI, an arboretum is es- sentially a ‘‘tree park.’’ In 1982, trees such as birch, spruce, cedar, poplar, pine, maple, and alder were planted in the said-area of land by the Department of Forestry as the result of an agreement with the university.

The university then had to have trees replanted in con- formation with the plans drawn up by a _ landscape artist. There would be groves of trees, some consisting of a single species, others of a mixture. In one corner, there would even have been an Acadian forest.

However, the area covered by the trees (which are not yet visible) is merely six acres. It

So will there be an arbore- tum? Mr. Coles does not seem to be sure. Perhaps we will be closer to an answer when the trees rise about the grass next spring. ~

CANADA EMPLOYMENT CENTRE

Now that the majority of recruiters have completed their first series of interviews it is time to plan ahead for the rest of the semester and school year. Although this has been the peak time for interviews, we feel confident that recruiting will continue all year on a more scaled down level. ;

For your information we had thirteen recruiters visit our campus to date and one off campus at the University of Monct. In total two hundred and six interviews were held. The majority of comments received from the interviews were positive. They regarded the students from U.P.E.I. as being well prepared, capable and enthusiastic. They emphasized the importance of each student demonstrating to the interview their strengths and skills and not to assume that they will discern this from the application alone. The interview is your chance to ensure these points get across! ;

As you are aware, the process of recruitment on Campus is one approach to obtaining a job opportunity. Clearly, it is the most straightforward, as they come to you. For those who-are not successful, or for whom they were no appropriate, take heart, as it is merely one approach.

Now it is time to plan a little more carefully from here. We won’t see Andy again on campus. What makes us sad is & that though we’re hurting now, we must regain control and strength if we’re to go on. We, no longer, will sit with him and talk about politics, music, or history. Physically, he’s gone but we’ll think of him often. %

The best that we can do now is to live our lives to the fullest; to remember that our time may come as unexpected as Andy’s did.
