Evelyn began her year at U.P.E.I. by enrolling in / the French Immersion pro- gram, which she highly 'recommended as an excel- lent course. This semester she isgtaking five courses- ,She commented that alco- hol plays_a large part in campus social life and those under eighteen can find it difficult to become in: volvedysocially. Evelyn‘ intends to return to U.P.E.I.‘next year.

Sandra finds that her workIOad has-increased . through her junior and senior-years. She feels that through going to class‘and taking notes ‘ she can decrease her home study time. ‘She is in- 'volved in spOrts at U.P. E.I. and as a result, has ’met many people from both here and other-universi— ties. Her future includes obtaining/her MBA degree or perhaps travelling.

'Geraldine feels that she should have broadened_her

course selection through— out high school and Univer- sity. Beginning in high school, she has channelled her courses solely into sciences. She advises new\ students to U.P.E.I. to ’look'into_other_areas’that interest them. Geraldine. noted that labs make a big difference, when comparing

'science to other faculties.

She is involved in music off-campus‘andvtherefore finds it difficult to par#_ ticipate in activities here.

'VICKIE\JOHNSTON SOPHOMORE - EDUCATION

"The best preparation for university is to become involved in Senior High School," says Vickie, one of this year's Carnival Queen nominees’and our 'sole representative for the Education faculty.

Before coming to U.P.E.I., Vickie considered several other uniVersities and chose U.P.E.I. above the rest. She reasoned that since this university offered-the degree she wanted, it was Unneces- sary to leave the Island

to look elsewhere for it.

It is obvious from the high marks she gives her faculty that her decision was a good one.’ Compared to other faculties, Education is a small one. This allows her to get to know the students and professors well. .She feels it is im— portant to develop good student/teacher relations

to Iearn and later to teach. She thinks it makes for a happier stu— dent and it mightn't

be available at other universitiesr

The workload from the first year touches on everything and becomes. more'detailed.g It is practical with actual teaching hours from the first year on. ' ’

When the time comes fOr her-to decide at which level she will teach,

Mike finds the Engineering Society to be closely-knit

I more so than any other

‘department. He socializes

mainly with the members of his department at ac— tivities such as engin— eering pubs and ski trips.

He doesnft know which branch of engineering he will enter. Mike feels the most important thing to know is how to study. He says only one-third of the enrolled students graduate from pre—engin- eering. He finds the work

JOANNE DEIGHAN FRESHMEN — BUSINESS

'JoAnn came to U.P.E.I.

because she was unable to enter Holland College for training as a dental assis- tant. She became inter- ested in business manage- ment while running the school canteen at Colonel Gray, and intends to go the full four years for a degree. JoAnn has Spent more time studying than actively participating socially” but doesn't think the workload is as heavy as she expected it would be. She has found it

hard learning to sort

out what is relevant in classes taught by lecture.

CHRISTINE ANDERSON FRESHMEN — ARTS — MUSIC

Christine decided to attend U.P.E.I. in order to cone tinue studying piano with Dr. Frances Gray. The workload for students in the music department is heavy but different than for any other degree.

than mental study. She says her department is extremely close and in- tends to continue here until she studies-for her
