Thousands Are Expected For Big Lobster Carnival

Summerside is ready and wait- ing to assume a carnival ap- pearance this week and to play hosts to thousands of Islanders and visitors for four days at the third annual Lobster Carnival which gets underway Wednesday.

Of course, in any such cele— brations, a lot depends on the weather, but closely connected with the big event gives out with an optomistic long-range, fine weather forecast and every- one else shares their optomism in hoping their wishes come true for the best carnival yet.

as a monster parade under mar- shal Ben Champion winds its way through Summerside streets headed by bands from H.M.C.S. Shear‘water, R.C.A.F. Station Summerside and Sea Cadet band from Svmmerside. Besides the many floats and colorful exhibits in the parade, there will be two army “Ducks” which will be a new sight to most people. These two amphibious craft will be in Summerside for the .duration of the carnival taking people for rides in the water and on the land in the Summerside area.

Tax Survey Assessment Results To Be Revealed

The effects of the new tax as- sessment survey completed in Summerside ‘will be made public at the annual‘budget meeting of

the Town Council ‘on Monday evening at 6:00 pm.

Councillor, W. E. MacAusland, chairman of the finance commit- tee, will present a detailed re- port of the 1958 budget which has been delayed until this time because of a complete new re- valuation and re-assessment of every property in Summerside, which has just been completed.

With the revaluation complete ed, and made on a uniform basis, the total assessment is ex- pected to‘be slightly higher, but it is anticipated that the tax rate 'will be lower than the one used last year. For some pro- perty owners this could mean a

somewhat higher tax payment, while others might .even pay less than previously. .

In compiling the budget the finan'ce committee have had an enormous amount of work in

connection with it's preparation, '

and have been faced with at least three losses of revenue or additional uncontrollable expen- ses totalling about $25,000 which will have to be made up through taxation.

These items include loss of taxation revenue resulting from the fire last winter,. increased school costs, and anticipated shrinkage in sundry, taxes, all of which are beyond the control of the council. _

Mrs. Reville Is Mourned

Friends are extending sincerest sympathy to the family‘of the late Mrs. Harold Reville. whose death. occurred at Stitsville, 0n- tario, following several months illness. ‘ ‘The funeral which was > very largely attended was held on Wednesday afternoon July 9th, from the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Preston Ramsay of Hamilton.

The services were conducted by Rev. L.M. Murray‘an-d Mr. Eric Grant. The male choir rendered “The Lord’s My Shepherd”. The floral tributes were many and beautiful.
