It is estimated that the Prohibition vote in New York State on Tuesday reached 40,000 more than double the vote of last year.

The sale of liquors will be’ permitted only in hotels and restau- rants, and licenses in these wili be limited in number, according to the judgment of the Excise officers, and a fee of $825 exacted for each.

Canon Farrar, to an interviewer said recently: “I have always been in favor of perfecting the education of women, but I think there are nota large num- ber of women who can stand the strain of competition. There are some few gifted ones who are equal to this great strain, and to them should be accorded all possible advantages. This question of the higher education of women has made great strides in England in the last ten years.” Canon Farrar doesn’t know how much of the strain of com- petition American and Canadian women can stand, or he would not touch the subject of the higher education of women so gingerly.
