Ten million dollars a year is the loss which the United States has to bear annually from pleuro-pneumonia and hog cholera, accord- ing to the United States Commissioner of Agviculture. Our people would do well to study how this disease can be prevented.

Buretaries.—Last night the store of Mr, P. Munroe, onthe corner of Fitzroy and Great George Streets, was entered by burglars and two Laon in casb and a small chest of tea stolen therefrom. The burglars entired from the front street. No clue to tae burglars, The window of Miss Bannon’s shop on Sydney Street was forced open by some unknown per- sons and all the saleables in it extracted.

Forcery. — William {[Boultenhouse,_ ef Moncton, has been examined on a charge of forgery and committed for trial. The Mone- ton Times states that the prisoner ‘‘is of a respectable family, and formerly lived in Sackville- Latterly. however, he has been been employed as fireman in the shifting en- gine in the Moncton station yard, from which ponies he was discharged some months ago or sufficient reasons.”

Ar the Stipendiary Magistrate’s Court this forenoon, Charles Burke appeared for being drunk and ineapable. He was fined $1 or four days. L. Whelan, for a like offence, was fined the same. Michael Began and Pete Mc- Guigan appeared on remand, charged with stealing a coat from Capt. W. H. Barnard. Their being no evidence against them, they were discharged on their own recognizance, to appear when re uired.

Joux Duyy has written a letter to the effect that he does not intend to permanently exclude the missionaries from his territory, but wishes to have more control over their actions. This letter has not allayed the very strong feeling existing against the exclusion of Europeans from Zululand, and it is stated that some of the missionaries intend to at- tempt to regain possession of their stations on the ground that their sites were given to them by Panda and Cctewayo.
