T expected on the foliow- {ing day to sce at least an extended report of the lecture in the Patriot. Fancy my diss ppointment to find a miserable quarter column report, which gave no possible

idea of what was really the best lecture of the kind ever deliver- ed in the province. Somebody seems

to suggest that modesty on the part of the editor prevented a fuller report. While it is quice.true that the Hon. David Laird is possessed of that‘virtue in no siitted de- gree, Iam quite safe in saying that it was not modesty alone that prevented the Pat- riot from giving more than a quarter col- umn of space to the report of a Jecture riends and foes alike to be masterly in the extreme.

It does not suit the party machine just now to say even one word thet would tend to cause this intellectual ability of the Hon. David Laird to appear greater than tha of the machine’s lesser lights. Hence the

It is hard to conceive that the objection is the resuJt entirely of ignorance, but that is the most charitable construction which can be put onit. The Remedial Bill does not attempt to redress the grievances cf others besides Roman Catholics, becanse the constitutional act makes no provision except fur minorities, Protestant or Roman Cat: vlic. Had Protestants as a whole remained in a minori‘y’ a3 they were in 1870, and their rights were encroached up on, the remedy would be demanded and would be granted.
