A Brorat Farner —A terrltle tale of brutality oo the part of an inhuman father comes from Ruerell, N. Y., acroas the river from Cornwall], Ont. Orville Zeller lived about halfa mile from Russell Village with his two motherlegs girls, aged respect~ ively, 8 and 13 years. Recently passerby were stocked to hear cries and pleadings from tue children and blows and curses from the enraged parent. Some of the neighbors went in and interferred, but as soon as they were out of hearing the brute again resumed his cruelty. Next morning theelier girl was unable to get out of bed, and then she was again pounded b:c use ehe would not get up. As this had become a common occurence, the antborities felt obliged to interfere, and notified Officer Rodds of Gouverneur, the ageot of the society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, who took the children ivto custody. They were found to be bad- ly bruised and scratched, and the older gil’s face was cut with a wbip.
