lppalling ravages of Clwlera.-—-In one family in the parish of Kilmeen, in the county of Cork, and on the borders of Ker- ry, nine persons of the family (that of a poor man, named Conner Flyn) died of the fatal malady in the short space of five hours. A friend who came to visit the fa- mily, and a poor woman—in all 1 1 persons, were siezed by the dire distemper, and buried into eternity. So great was the terror and panic that prevailed in the neigh- bourhood that no one could be found to as- sist in placing the dead bodies in their coffins, and all this melancholy and heart- rendering duty devolved upon an only survi- ving son of poor Flyn’s, who had the afflict- ing task to perform of placing the mortal remains ofa father and mother, two bro- thers, a widowed sister, and three of that sisters children, one a grown-up lad, in their coffins, and carrying them to their graves.— Tralec Post.

By the Nimrod frigate which has arrived atI‘ortsmouth there are accounts, it is re- ported, from Oporto Their contents have not transpired ; but, on Saturday last, the Lord Cochrane sailed from the Downs for Oporto, having on board 520 French troops old soldiers, well armed, equipped, and commanded. Arother expedition, consist- ing of about 600 men, is ready to sail from Ostend, for the same destination, and Irish efforts are making by the agents of Don Pe- dro to enable their friends to put an end to the struggle, byrecruiting for them on a large scale.

The most important item of intelligence is the Ministerial Slave Emancipation Bill, by which it appears His Majesty’s Govern— ment have at length determined to set this long contemplated measure at rest, and in a spirit which we have no doubt will conciliate all par-

for-the entire abolition of Slavery in our Wést India Colonies.

“ Thus the principal features of the plan are, that a loan of 115,000 is to be raised and advanced to the planters, accor- ding to the number of negroes and amount of export from each estate, upon such se- curity as the Lords of the Treasury may think fit. The aged, sick, and infirm ne- groes are to be maintained on the estates as usual. Slaves capable of labour are to be registered and apprenticed to the es- tate, and three-fourths of their labour is to be applied to the benefit of the proper- ty, and one-fourth to be reserved and se- cured for their emancipation at the expira- tion oftwelve years. Children under six years of age, where their parents cannot or will not support them, are to be appren— ticed until they are, if males, ‘24 years of age; and if females, 90 years of age, and, slaves to be allowed to apprentice them- selves to another party, on paying the sti- pulated sum for emancipation.

The only point in which the apprenticed labourer will differ from a freeman is, that he will be obliged, to work for a particu- lar individual for a limited period for wa- ges sufficient to confer on him all the ne- cessaries and some of the luxuries of life, and sufficient, also, to enable him to re- lieve himself within a limited period, even from the moderate obligation.

The contract into which he will enter with his master will be more favourable in its terms and less onerous in itp. duties thanthatwhich the difficulty of obtainingsub sistence virtually imposes on almost every English labourer. He willbe totally free from all corporal punishments inflicted at the will ofhis employer, and will be sub- Ject to no other controul than that of the law. In this respect, and in regard to his labours and his wages, his condition will be considerably better than that of an indent— ed labourer in this or in any other coun- try.

. In addition, he will have the blessing of freedom of conscience and religious wor- ship, the privilege of giving evidence in courts ofjustice, without any invidious or unjust restrictions, and future children, and even his present children under six years of age, will be immediately and ab- solutely free.’

The popularity of Ministers appears to be on the wane. After handling them pret- ty roughly, a Birmingham paper con- cludes with the following:
