A MAN named Cameron, in the employ of J. R. Elliott, Elliott’s Mills, had his leg acci dentally broken on Friday afternoon. He was in the act of putting afbelt on the pulley, in the saw mill, when the wheel caught his leg, upset him, broke his ankJe in two places and severely bruised his shoulder. Drs. YESTERDAY afternoon the Superintendent Methalist Sun lay School, in his closing address +o the scholars, told them that it was their duty to guard carefully the trees recently planted in the squares and streets of our city, and im no case were they to stand idly ‘by and see them destroyed. This is anther step in the right direction. Lord Leonard Convicted, | Lonpon, May 24.

Short work was made yesterday with the

case of Lord St. Leonard, who made an

indecent assault upon a servant girl. He

was convicted and will receive sentence on Monday.

Brig Sunk—Lives Lost. St. Jonn’s Netp., May 23. The French brig Senorine sank on the eastern ‘edge of the Great Banks some time in the first week in May. Her crew of nine and fifty-three passengers perished. Fire in Toronto. Toronto, May 24. Shortly after nine this morning, a fire was discovered in the Mail newspaper building; before it was put out it had done considerable damage.

Her remains were interred in the Beltast burying ground belonging to the ( harch of Scotland, of which she was a true and staunch member, waiting in the hope of the first resurrection, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.

On the 3d inst, at his residence, Valley- field. Maleolm Montgomery, Esq. deeply regretted by ali who had the pleasure of his acquaintunce. He was well informed and very intelligent, a piens and good man of honest integrity, ‘‘given to hospitality,” a member and an elder for many years of the Presbyterian Church. His end was peace.
