A blood donor clinic was held on Tuesday Sept. 27 at the UPEI gym.

The Red Cross had hoped

for 270 donors to give blood. Their mark was not even close to being made. 0f the l520 students at UPEI only 1A7 gave blood.

This showing was attrib- uted to many causes. The clinic was held at incon- venient hours, it was not well-publicized and there. were insufficient students

to organize it.

“In the future, this shall be rectified,” said Gerald McKenna. ” we will be setting UP a committee to organize future clinics with Barb Weal, the Red Cross Representative.”

A committee like this has been needed for years. The Student Union has finally formed a committee that deals with outside activ— ities instead of centering around UPEI.

The Student Union has receiv- ed word that the P.E.|. Li- quor Control Commission has considered and approved the Student Union requests for new bar hours and designated licensed areas for the Barn. On September 20, the new

bar hours and licensed areas go into effect.

On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the Panther Lounge is open from 8pm to l2 mid- night. Thursday the bars will be set up from 8:30pm to l2:3O am on the lst and- 3rd floors, and in theEast End of the second floor in the Barn there will be a licensed area to be used as a dance floor. The bar will be open in the Panther Lounge on Friday afternoon from 2pm to 4:30‘pm and either Friday or-rSatur'dayhightJ

The Pig n"Whistle on Oct. 6 will be wet/dry, meaning that minors will be permitted entrance to the 2nd and 3rd floor areas of. the Barn. These areas will NOT be licensed. Alcohol will NOT be allowed in these areas. The Panther Lounge will be licensed. People over l8 ' years of age will be allowed to drink in this lounqe.
