Tue Master of the Rolls did not yet de-| liver judgment in the case which occupied the time of the Court of Chancery for the past five days. He will very likely deliver judgment on Monday.

Tue Rev. Mr. Baker, M. A., will officiate in the Prince Street Methodist Brick Church to-morrow at 10.30 am. ‘The service in the evening will be conducted by the Rev. R. Brecken, M. A., of Windsor, N.S.

The schooner Swallow, Rood, of George- town, and Arizona, Maxwell, of this City, arrived at Boston on the 5th, with cargoes of produce. The Katie Nelson, from this port, arrived at New York on the 4th, with a cargo of produce.

A pespatcu from Petticodiac, N. B., says:—The Elgin Spool Factory, with all its contents, burnt completely last night. No insurance. The fire is a heavy loss for Mr. C. A. Hallett.—Another despatch gives the loss at $20,000.

Tur barkentine Ethel Blanche, McMahon, with cargo of 31,750 bushels of oats, of 36 lbs each, and 354 pieces deals, containing 10,000 feet, superficial measurement, shipped by Peake Bros. & Co., cleared for Plymouth, for orders to-day.

We understand that Hon. J. C. Pope and Hon. F. Brecken were in this town on Thursday last, looking after the Northern Light. She left here on Tuesday morning to go on the Marine Slip at Pictou, to be thoroughly repaired. — Advertizer.

Mr. Corveav, a former resident of Mon- treal, has returned to that city from the States, and is about starting the manufac- ture of silks. The building is already fitted up. The machinery will be the same as is used in Lyon’s, France, from which place his foreman comes.

Sr. James’ Caurcu.—The members of the congregation are respectfully informed that the church will be warmed to-morrow, as one of the furnaces has been set up. There will therefore be no risk of suffering discomfort or injury from cold to any who may desire to attend divine service.

Tue disappearance of Edward Lyons is, up to the present, causing unusual excite- ment in Souris. Despite the most diligent search, nothing further than his hat, one mitten and saddle has yet been discovered. It is the general impression that on his way home he drove into the channel of the river and was drowned. Althoug the river has been thoroughly dragged, no further traces than the above can be found.

Tue mate of the brigantine Siena, Hector McDonald, was drowned in a very mysteri- ous manner on the night of the 22nd ult. —the night after that vessel left Trinidad. Froin the log book and crew we learn that on the night of the 22nd ult. McDonald, while on watch, fell asleep on the cabin. Three persons were on deck at the time: the deceased, the man at the wheel and another on the lookout. The sea was calm and the night very bright, it being moon- light. At 11.15 those on deck saw the de- ceased quietly resting on the cabin. Ten miuutes later search was made for him, but he was nowhere to be found. The vessel was immediately put about and the di rection which they came retraced, but he was nowhere visible. The man at the wheel says he saw nothing of him after 11.15, when he was lying asleep on the cabin. It is believed that during his sleep he rose and walked over the raii ; but how this could occur without the man at the wheel seeing something of it, is a mystery. Mr. McDonald belongs to Pinette. He was a most exemplary young man.

The Manchester Guardian’s Vienna dis- patch says it is believed that the adoption in the lower House of the Reichsrath yester-. day of an address in reply to the speech from the throne will create the assent of the Austrian members of the delegation to an additional credit for accomplishing the occupation of Bosnia, but at the same time commits them to record a vote of want of confidence in Count Andrassy’s foreign policy.

When the new Parliament of the Do- the people meet to deliberate for their country’s good, there is one familiar face which will be sadly missed from the floor of the House of Commons, one gifted mind and kindly heart, whose absence from the councils of the nation will create a vain re- gret alike by Treasury and Opposition benches. We refer to the Hon. Peter Mitchell, whose public services during the long years since Confederation placed him in the foremost ranks of Canada’s ablest and most devoted sons, and entitle him to the thanks of an intelligent and appreciative people. A man of clear head, sterling ability, and large business and political ex- perience; independent in his actions, and fearless in the expression of his views; the soul of good nature, yet keen as a razor in debate, though too broad minded to des- cend to hair-splitting, Mr. Mitchell was ex- actly the last man whom the country could afford to spare at this trying juncture from active participation in the consideration of its situation and the legislative measures to be adopted for its improvement. In his dual capacity of representative of the people and member of the Government, he was the ‘beau-ideal of a faithful servant of the pub- lic and a model of efficient and popular ad- ministration of one of the most arduous and important of Canadian State departments.

Marine and Fisheries service must admit the justice of these remarks and feel that, in paying this tribute to the honorable entleman, we are doing no more than the uty which every impartial journalist owes to the talents and merits of the public men of his country, regardless of party,
