Robertson said that since he nad lact met the commtttee he had visited Surope and nad observed much of what was being done in Manual school work. He told the committee what was !doing in the schools of Eagland, Scotland, Ireland, Sweeden, Germany, the great progress that was being made and the educational value of the work done. He fully explained the scheme upoa which the schools were to be carried on. The achoo! here was to be under the coatrol ofthe City School Board for the period of three years. The Board is to provide room, heat and light, and all other ex~- penses are to te paid out of the Macdon- ald Manuel School Fund, He wisbed at present to make an agree- ment with the School Board as to the place in which the school would be held. He had visited several places in the city and considered the unoccupied room in the upper flat of Queen Square schou!l to be very suitable. In addition to the schocl for boys a echoo!l will also be established for the training of teachers who wish to get cer- tificates to take charge of Manual Train- ing Schools. This would be under tke direction of the Board of Education. The members of the School Board pres- ent were fully i ord with the project, and will meet early next week to complete arrangements for the establishment of the school, - ‘ Short speeches were made by several of those present, eulogizing the generosity of Sir Wm. Macdonald in starting the move- ment which Sir John Gorst says is the greatest educational reform of the cen- tary, and expressing their confidence in the ability of Professor Robertson to carry out the echeme he has undertaken with so much enthusiasm.

Prof. Robertson spoke of Mr. Collier, who is to take charge here, as a very cap~ able man. ‘The equipment of the school is now on its way from Ottawa, and the school will be in operation as soon as possible.

A vote of thanks was tendered Prof. Robertson, who acknowledged it in suit- able terms.

Tue Rirta.—Tbhe Canadian Military Gazette of August 21st gives the complete official list of the scor-s made at the matches of the Canadian Military Rifle League during the past shootiog seeson. Most ofthe teams in the list are regi- meatal teams having from ten to a hundred men. There are eleven Rifle Associations, and in these our Queen’s. County Associat on has done well. There were four teams from it in the League matches, two of which are prize winners:—ILst team, 3575 pointe; 2od, 3470; 3rd 3070; 4th 2568. Maritime Cnmampionsuirs.—It is three years since Charlottetown made its first showing atthe Maritime championships, at that time held in Halifax. Four athletes, viz.,,L- B. MoMillan, D. A. McKinnon, C.J. McMillan aad Lorne R. Uneworth scoring 27, points, only a few behind the Wanderers af Halifax, whose team won the trophy. The next year the championships were held in Charlotte- town, ,and the Island athletes who com~ pitsd under the banner of the a 0 &.8 scored 34 points against the Wanderers’ 40. Last year at Moncton the Island boys chased the Hali- gonians even harder, but a } point separa- ting them from the coveted emblem of athletic euperiority. This year a deter- mined effort must be made if they are to win. Halifax, St, John, Mcncton ard other maritime cities are vieing with each other, and ro expense will be
