Kicked sy a Horse.—The six-year old son of Rev. Mr. Crisp was kicked in the head by & horse, on Thursday night last, at Point De Bute. N. B. The skull was fractured aud the brain exposed. The little fellow was in the yard alone with the horse, when some mem- ber of the family, hearing a cry, went out and found him unconscious. There is little hope of his surviving the accident.

Tae Snort Lixe.—Rapid progress is being made with construction on the Short Line. Rails are now laid a distance of ten miles from Pictou, and before four weeks elapses tlie locomotive will be at River John. The con- tractors have over 600 men employed and have pushed ahead the work with rapidity. The expenditure of money in connection with this road has been a good thing for the town of Pictou.

Scmmersipe Notes.—About five o'clock on Saturday afternoon the umbrella’ man went into Gourlie’s drug store under the influence of “ exhiliarating fluid.” Mr. Gourlie ejected him. The colored man showed fight, drawing aknife. He was taken care of by the police and was up for trial this morning. The Magistrate fined him $30 or three months in jail and a flogging, or to leave the town im- mediately forever. He preferred the latter.
Mr. Powers has taken Ronald McDonald's store, and is fitting up a barber shop there.

It is stated that Premier Mercier has received 4 communication from Rome in- forming him that the Pope has given de cision in the allotment of $490,000 for the settlement of the Jesuit estate question to the effect that three fourths of the amount shall revert tothe Jesuits and the rest to Cardinal Taschereau and Lavel University.
