By the way, does it not come with a very bad grace from the late opposition to talk | 30 loud about drawing from capital when | their own Grit Legislative Council actually passed that bill’? It could not have beeu done if they had said no. However, draw- ing from capital and issuing debentures amount to one and the same thing, and that is their present policy. They want the treasury benches—they wil! not be particular where the money comes from— 48 long a8 it comes. Still we are told that the late government has a debt on hand of from fifty to ahundred thousand dollars. Why, when the Davies government went out of power in the spring of 79, they were in debt, I think, some $70,000, and yet twelve years have elapsed since, and ab- solutely no taxes imposed for at least nine years uf that time, and yet we have only | about the same cld debt that they left, there. Let the people remember, however, that in the meantime seme $360,000 have) been feft in their pockets, which would have been taken out by taxes had the late opposition remained in power.

This would be great news for contumptives but for the ex- planation of the physician in charge, which | runs in this strain. ** Of course, as in any} shronic disease, the cure is relative. Le way suffer a relapse within a year or two, | brought about by poor food, by living in| contracted and poorly ventilated rooms or by expesure. Such a relapse, however, would not alter the opinion of a physician that the man is cured at the present time.”

Mrs. Mary Gay, relict of the late John Stewart, Esq., Brudenell, King’s County, died at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. John Nicholson, Pisqnid Road, April 26, 1591, aged 87 years. Mrs Stewart was a native ot the State of Maine, but when a little girl

‘came to this Island with her father’s family.

They made the journey in an open boat. Many years ago she gave her heart's affections to the world’s Redeemer, aud as a member of the Church of Christ, she was faithful until death. Five sens and three daughters are left to meditate on the virtues of a faithful life, as they have seen them in one so dear, and, we trust, to imitate, and so prepare for a meeting in a better country.

J., had suffered with Neuralgia of the head and face until almost frantic with pain ; actually beating the wall with her head to cause insen-ibility. Her employer having heard that a Dr. Tere had cured rheumatism by the sting of a wasp, asked the girl if she would try it, With courage born of desp.ir, she exclaimed “‘Any other torture would be pleasure beside this.” A yellow obtained, anu vexed into stinging her face. Within a few moments the pain ceased, the gicl feilasleep, and strange to say, never again bad an attack of neuralgia, Well, we dou’t blame her. The remedy was probably too heioic for a second dose. A _ learned specialist when told this yarn remarked, ‘‘The pain may have stopped temporarily, but it could only have been temporary.” Continued he, “Itisa fact that a sudden shock te.inflamed and painful nerves will stop pain,” but the remedy is worse than the dis ease, as many unthinking people in after years fiud out, who apply fiery and dangerous compounds externally to stop Neuralgia and Rheumatism. They only continue to shock thoir neryous system, ignorant of the fact that, 2s in the morphine or alcohol habit their menial and moral nuture is thus grad- ually being destroyed. ‘*Make haste slowly if you expect to cure any neive disease” was the @dVice toa lady by a friend who had been cured of chronic neuralgia by using for some time Johnson's Anodyne Linimeat inhaled, taken internally, and applied ex- ternally, as advised in the wrapper around every bottle. How to Destroy THE INTELLECTUAL AND Morat Facutries.—l. If a boy does his work throughly and well, give him harder work. If he does not do this thoroughly, tell him that it is his own fault and that he is growing both stupip and idle.

2. Impress upon him daily that the object of school work is to do better than some other boy, or to appear to do so.

3. Do not allow the use of cribs, but ignore their use.

4. When a boy can do his mathematical work better than other boys of his age, tell him that he should also be able to do his classical work better (his mathematical faculty will enable him to see the force of this reasoning )

5. Tell every boy that he ought to spend three hours on his evening lessons, but tell his father that they should take one and a half hours.

6. If a boy sends in better work than

on expect from him, tell him that he ought to have sent in better work before.

7. Always tell every boy in the class that he ought be higher up than he is.

These rales, if fully and carefully carried out, will turn bright boys into dull ones in a short time, and successfully confuse their ideas of sight and wrong.
