Anruony Hamttron, a lad apparently ten years of age, was arraigned before the Stipen- diary Magistratethis forenoon for being drunk and incapable. This lad is known to have been several times under the influence of liquor, and the Marshal arrested him to dis- cover where he obtained the beverage. He refused to tell, and the Magistrate ordered that he be kept in custody until to-morrow.

M. A. Cameron has removed his Insur- ance Oftice to LePage’s Building, Corner of Queen and Sydney Streets, where he will be glad to meet all his old customers, and as many new ones as_ will favor him with their patronage. In a few days he will open out anew Fire Insurance Company, as soon as necessary blanks can be received.

A Ramway 1x tHE Hoty Lanp.—The Constantmople Al-Jawaib of the 14th ult., says :—‘* We are assured that a mixed com- pany have obtained a concession for laying down a railway between Jaffa and Jerusa- lem, also to construct a harbor for shipping ad the former place. Gen. Mott, of the United States army, and a member of the Red Cross Society, is the representative of the company here. He sailed last Friday for Paris to consult with the company with regard to putting the concession into im- mediate. execution.” The same journal states that several plans for railroads in Asia Minor have been submitted to the Porte, bnt that thus far nothing in that re- spect has been oflicially decided.

A very interesting game of cricket may be expected on or about Thursday next, be- tween the Pheenix Club, of this city, and the Halifax Garrison Club. The fame of the Garrison Club has gone over the Pro- vinces. They are an excellent eleven, and boast of having some of the hardest hitters in the Dominion amongst them. Judging from the names of the Charlottetown team, the Garrison Club will have to work hard to add to their laurels a victory in Charlottetown. The eleven are F. S. Long- worth, W. C. Hobkirk, B. Davies, R. R. FitzGerald. 8S. D. FitzGerald, G. Macleod, L. Disney, J. Longworth, V. Longworth, J. Yeo and J. Moore, It is the intention of the citizens to give their military guests an entertainment—either a dinner or a ball. We would say by all means give thema ball in the Market Hall, and let it bea first-class one.

Avex. Murray, of Yarmouth, N. S., patentee ‘of a process for manufacturing artificial “stone, has on exhibition at Con- nolly’s hew block, Queen Street, samples of stone manufactured by him, and will be glad to have all interested ina really good invention to give him acall and examine samples, all of which have been manufac- tured from plain sand. They comprise lawn vases, cemetry coping, paving for side walks, mosaic tiling for public buildings, ete., window caps, etc., which, for beauty of design, durability and cheapness, are un- equalled, costing less than half what the same would in carved natural stone. He has also photographs of several of the burial lots fitted up with coping in the cemetry at Yarmouth, N. S., manufactured by his process, and the marvellous cheapness _ of the work can scarcely be credited. He has certificates from the leading citizens of Yar- mouth who have patronized the firm of which Mr. Murray is a partner. Manufac- tured stone has been used for several years in the United States and also in England for building ornamental and a_ variety of other purposes ; and the durability of this stone has been thoroughly tested in every climate. Having the right to manufacture for the entire Dominion, this company offer to scli Provincial and County rights at figures wonderfully low considering the profits from the manufacture and sale of the stone. Mr. Murray will exhibit his samples at the Exhibition in Truro, N. 8., during the coming month, and was induced to visit Charlottetown by some of his friends, who informed him that nearly all our building stone was imported from the neighboring Province, and he extends a cordial invita- tion to all of our architects, contractors, stone cutters,-and the public generally, to call and inspect his samples, and he will be pleased to give all the information in his power concerning process of manufacture, cost, etc. His figures for this Province are fifty per cent. below what same territory has sold for in the United States. He will remain until next Thursday, and hopes to! make a sale of this Province within that time. —1li

In Waterloo South, Merner (Opposition) is elected by 50 majority. Gillies (Opposition) is elected in North Bruce by 152. Orton (Opposi- tion) is elected in Wellington Centre ; also Drew (Opposition) in North Wellington by 68. Sproule’s majority, in East Grey is 500 ; and South Simcoe returns Little (Op- position) by 172. Gillmore (Grit) is elected in Charlotte by 233 majority.

We regret to learn that the barn of Mr. David Mutch, of Rustico, was consumed by fire on Wednesday evening. It contained a large quantity of grain and all Mr. Mutch’s farming implements.

Mr. Ton Ton TeruvuKuM delivered a racy lecture on ‘‘The Indian,” on Market Square, last evening, to a very large audience of men, women and children. The lecture was fol- lowed by variety songs, harp music, ete. Mr. Terhukum, who is a Medicine Man of one of the Indian tribes, takes this mode of advertis- ing his Prairie Flower Bitters. He disposed of a large quantity of them during the enter- tainment last evening.

MASSACHUSE?TS Vital statistics show that more people died in that State last year from consumption than from any other cause. Diphtheria was second on the list. Scarlotina, in previous years very fatal, fell to the fourteenth place. Dysentry was un- usually severe, but the other diseases were not far out of their accustomed relation. In infancy the diarrheal diseases of summer surpassed all other causes of death. It is alluded to as an interesting fact that old age is assigned as a cause of so many deaths, outranking the fatality of more controllable conditions; this feature is especially note- worthy in the rural Counties of Barnstable, Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire, Norfolk and Plymouth. Four per cent. of the deaths during that year were from violent causes, and of the total number 21 boys and 3 girls were drowned.

Tue Moncton Potsonrne Case.—At the examination of Mrs. Isabel Burke, on Tuesday afternoon, arrested for an attempt to poison her husband, Lorang Burke, on

the effect that he had sat down to dinner prepared by his wife, and on taking a mouthful of stewed blueberries they tasted

like hot ashes, and went to his throat and

head. He immediately vomited out the

berries, and suspected that an attempt had

been made to poison him. Dr. Scott gave

evidence of making an analysis of the ber-

ries left with him by the Frenchman, and

finding evidences of vitrol in large quanti-

ties in them. The examination was con | cluded on the 18th before Justice Wort- | man, and the woman committed for trial in’ the Supreme Court.

Every vessel loaded at THE SYDNEY MINES is furnished with a certificate of the cargo being Sydney Coal. Parties purchasing should satisfy themselves by demanding the production of this certificate.
