(Cheers. ) In 189495 the per capita amount of the interest paid on the public debt was $1.83, and in 1887-88 $1.90 per head. So that, notwithsianding the increase in the debt, the burthen fell less heavily last year than it did vears ago. (Cheers.)

The N. P. free list has increased $26, 500,000 compared with a decrease of the free list under the Grit rule of $23,900,900. Tespite cold weather and b'ocked roads the horticultu a! meeting at Alberton was a splendid success. Woodman’s Hall was filled with representative farmers and their wives. John T. Weeks, Esq., presided.

Father Burke read a valuable paper on on the statis of fruit culture. Then Prof. Craig spoke for two hours, his epeech | being of great interest to evervbody. Grat ification was manifested and much ques- tioning done. Dairy Superintendent Dillon made astirring speech, endorsing Mr. Craig’s plea for the British market, cold storage and fast steamere.

The British allusions were enthusiastic- ally cheered, and the meeting closed with “God Save the Cueen,” something unusual for a dry agricultural gathering.

Delegates were appointed to organize a Provineial dairymen’s and fruit growers’ is ociation.
