Fine Bani ww Micaican.—A late dis- patch from Nirvania, Mich, says: A re- markable phenomenon occured about half a mile east of the Nirvania station last night. <A large fire ball about the size of a bushel basket, fell to the earth at an an- gle of about 20 degrees. When it struck the snow it arose,and floated off at the sare angle it fell, until it disappeared be- hind the hills. It is thought to -have been one of the “meteoric bubbles, which are sometimes seen in this latitude,varying in size from a hat tothe one here men— tioned, and consisting ot a phosphorescent erclosei by a thin film.

Pursuant to arrangement, the first order of business taken up was the loyal resol- ution of Mr. McNeill. The mover made a fine speech, which closed as fullows : “We wish the people of England and Ire- land aud Scotland to know that we, the

people of Canada, are no mere fair weather friende. We want our kinsmen with

in Australia to know that we are them in thisSheart and hand, We want the pe ople of the wide world to know that come what may, in whatever part of tthe Empire they may happen to reside, the British people are one people, animated by one spirit, and determined to stand as one man in the defence of their common rights and in the maintenance of their common interests. We desire peace before all things. We regard war with horror. But we are prepared toaccept it, with all its consequences, come from what quarter it may, if it be necessary to do so in order to maintain and defend the honor and integ- rity of our own Empire:” The speech was received with cheers.

Mr. Davies seconded the resolution. He sad that when the day should come tia it was necessary, |e wa: sure, all Brit 8. subj c's all cver the world, would give the best aid to the Motherland.

Mr. McShane and Mr. Davin having spoken, the resolution was carried unani- mously, amid prolonged cheers.

THE GOVERNMENT RAILWAY STATISTICS,

The report of the Department of Rail- ways was presented yestereay. The P. E. Island Railway’s earnings amounted to $140,654; the working expenses to $232,- 905 —the loss on the year’s operations be- ing $83,250.

Deducting from the profit made on the Intercolonia! and Windsor Branch rail- ways, the loss on the P. E. Island Rail way, the net loss was $54,997.

The gross earnings of all the Govern- ment roads for the past year amounted to $3,129,140, and compared with those of the preceding year show a decrease of $419,579. The gross working expenses amounted to $3,144,448—a reduction of $41,760.
