“If we keep our faith on what is good enough and let it alone, we'll be nearer to God.”

That could sum up the philos- ophy of the Amish, who since the 1690s have fled from country to country in search of a place to practise their religion and educate their children without outside interference.

WIDELY PERSECUTED

The Amish, or more specific- ally the Old Order Amish, are almost a pure branch of the
