One of the most touching instances of canine attachment which was ever heard was related to us the other day. by it matron ofthe neighbourhood, where the finale of the melancholy event transpired, A young lady of one of the northern towns of this county, while en-

I want to tell you a true story. I went to thej.iil the other day to visit a young man only twenty-four years of age. yet he had been sentenced to prison twice. efore the last sentence lind expired, be had made his escape. by sawing of!’ an iron bar; but in a few months he was caught, and lodged in the jail where I saw him.

That his fa- tbsr died. when he was only eight years old. and he soon began to be disobedient to his mother, and to care for notlhig sliesaidtohim. He kept coinpiin with bad boys. and soon commenced stealing‘- Iittle articles at fiist, ituch as apples, peaches, &c.; and then, as he grew older. he broke into houses and stores, at midnight, and be- come it thief and robber.
