Word was received Sunday night that Lieutenant Fenton Newbeiy of the American Navy died Sunday morning as aresult of an accident on active service.

Lieutenant. Newbel-y is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Beverley R.- New- belw of 10 Belmont Terrace, Yonk-_

His father formerly belonged to Charlottetown, and although it is many years since he moved to the United States he and Mrs. New- bezy have been here. on several vis- its and are fondly remembered by a host of friends, whose hearts will go out to them in deepest sym- pathy, also to his sisters, Izme, Mrs. Richard Edie and Isabelle. Mrs. Nomlan MaleWilllanls, and hi; brother, Lewis.

Lieutenant Newbery was charge of a Crash-Boat which was attached to the Aeronautical div- ision. He was very popular among his fellow Officers and was held in the highest regard b all who were privileged to enjoy friendship.

LAC. Edgar J. Dockendorff. R. C. A. F. was killed on active service overseas on Friday last, according to word received by his wife in Charlottetown. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. V. H. Dockendorff of Mt. Hope. near Dundas.

LAC. Dookendorff, who was 2'1 yearn of ass. enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air I-‘oroe on July 1, 1940 at Moncton. He was among the first airmen to enlist from this province and after taking his train- ing with tlhe Air Ilbroe at schools in Upper Canada he went overseas on Pieb. 4, 1942. Lately he has been flying.

The wire conveying the sad news of his death did not give details but promised that further inform- ation would follow in a letter.

Before enlisting, LAC. Dooken- dorff lived in Charlottetown and was outplayed for about six years with the firm of Hall and Staverf. here.

Surviving besides his wife, the former Miss Marion Hume of ‘this city, and his parents, are three brothers, Gordon with the RCAJFE, Harold and R/ussel, at home and one sister Lillian Mrs. Stewart Davison 0f Hamilton, Ont.

At the monthly meeting of the City Council last night a resolu- tion wes passed authorizing an ex- penditure up to $1400 by the City for the year 194-3 for A.R.P. pur- poses, on the basis set out in the following minute of the treasury board of the Province, as received in a communi/atien from the depu- ty provincial secretary-treasurer:

“The Treasury Board having under consideration the immediate ne- cessity for additional water and medical supplies in the Charlotte- town area for A.R.P. purposes au- thorizes an expenditure not exceed- ing fourteen hundred dollars ($1. 400) for the year i943, being 26 per cent of the total expenditure to be made by the City of Charlotte- town for said purposes. The remain- ing 75 per cent of the gross ex- pellditure to be paid on the basis of 50 per cent Dominion government and 26 per cent City of Charlotte- town."

Urgent recommendations stressing the need of retaining the double passenger train service to and from the province have been made by the Provincial Government and the Charlottetown Board of Trade, it was learned yesterday.

This action was taken following the receipt over the week-end of a communication from Mr. T. C. Lockwood. traffic controller. Ot- tawa, to Mr. W. B. Hi gins, Board of Trade secretary, stat g it. would be eceseery to limit passenger traffic to one train daily and asking the Board tn specify the train they preferred.

Board of Trade representatives conferred yesterday with Premier Jones, and the matter was further discussed by phone with Mr. Rand Matheson, manager of the Maritime Transportation Commission. and with the federal representatives at Ottawa.
