‘* ‘Why, I came so near laughing out in church that there was no fun in it,’ he said. ‘Of course the choir is hiddem from the congregation behind its pro- tecting sereen in the rear of the church, but it chances to be exactly in my line of vision as I stand on the rostrum. When I stopped in my sermon today, it was because I happened to glance choir- ward and saw our new soprano and new tenor having a quiet game of cards be- hind the screen. They must have felt my gaze upon them, for when they looked up and caught my eye those cards disappeared so suddenly and mys- teriously I thought that in spite of ev- erything I should burst out laughing.’’ —Philadelphia Times.
