Academics For Dinner

With the hope of establishing a tradition, the University of Prince Edward Island is hosting the first annual Academic Awards Dinner, Thursday, October 30th. '
The Dinner's purpose is "to recognize people who were<11the Dean's List last year, and to recognize pdblicly people other than seniors who won prizes for acadendc excellence", according to the Dean of Arts, Frand Ledwell.

a Guest speaker this year is Colin MadMillan, the Island's last Rhodes‘ Scholar. '
Approximately 150 students, departmental chairmen or their dele- gates and prize donors are invited to the 7:30 P.M. Dinner in the Dining Hall. Each Dean's List student will be cited by nane and major at the Awards Dinner.

Our executive held its first meeting Tuesday, October 24th.
Our agenda included looking very seriously at our present financial
situation and planning events for the upcoming
year. Many students of the
student body do not realize the objective behind a class executive. The main purpose is to prepare fer the Senior Week of our graduating year. The class tries to raise as much money as possible each year in order to have an eventful Senior Week. Another
objective of a class exeCutive is to unite all of its members. This rincludes resience students as well as off-campus students. In order for class . members to meet each other, it was decided to ' _have an open class meeting.
‘ The planning has already been started and we will inform the class of more details once they become available.
At the present, our class is almost five hundred dollars in debt: .We need your support, as members of the Sophmore Class, in order to help overcome this debt.
If anyone has any suggestions or criticiSms please feel free to contact any member of the executive. We need your support, in order to have a memorable Senior Week of '83.

Shining success

Remember Orientation '80 and Shinerama Day?
The thirty-eight universities across Canada who participated in Shinerama raised a grand total of $30h,859 to aid in research of that dreaded disease Cystic Fibrosis.
