XX. And be it enacted, That the Treasurer shall on Monday in every week, before the opening of his Office, forward a report to the Lieutenant Governor, or ther Administrator of the Government for the time being, specifying the total amount of Bonds and Cash remaining in his hands.

XX{. And be it enacted, That the Officer of the | Currency shall in like manner, on Monday in each and every week, make report to the Lieutenant Governor, or other Administrator of the Government for the time being, specifying the total amount of Gold and Silver Coin, as also of the amount of Notes, as well as of the sum placed to the credit of the Government, and de- posited in the Bank of Great Britain, or in any one of Her Majesty’s North American Colonies, at Interest, (unless such Monday should bea holiday, when the accounts of the T'reasury and Currency Officer shall be made up, and forwarded to the Lieutenant Governor, or other Administrator of the Government for the time being, on the following day ;) and the Lieutenant Go- vernor or other Administrator of the Government for the time being, by and with the advice of his Council, is hereby empowered to make such orders and give such directions to the said Treasury and Currency Officer aud Commissioners for issuing ‘Treasury Notes,as he may by and with the advice of his Council, deem necessary or expedient for the regulation of the duties of their respec- tive Offices in accordance with the provisions contained in this Act, and that the Lieutenant Governor, or other Administrator of the Government for the time being, by and with the advice of Her Majesty’s Council, shall have power, and he is hereby authorized from time to time, to direct ite Commissioners of Treasury Notes to vary the proportions of the respective arnounts or kinds of 'T'rea- sury Notes in such manner as may be deemed expedi- entand necessary.

XXII. And be it enacted, That the Lieutenant Go- vernor, or other Administrator of the Government for the time being, by and with the advice of her Majesty’s Ex- ecutive Council, is hereby authorised, empowered, and directed to negociate from time to time, a Loan or Loans, whenever the demands made on the Treasury as com- pared with the specie in the ‘Treasury, and also with the amounts becoming or falling due to the Government of this Colony, shall appear to the Executive Government torender such Loan or Loans reqnisite: Provided al- ways, thatthe said Loan or Loans shal] not in the whole exceed Five Thousand Pounds Sterling, and on condi- tion of such Loanor Loans shall be, that the same shall be redeemable within the period of Five years.

XXII. And beit enacted, That an Act of the Gen- eral Assembly of this Island, made and passed in the Seventh year ofthe Reign of His late Majesty King William the Fourth, intituled “.4n Act to enable the Share- holders of a Company called the Bank of British North simerica to Sue and be Sued in the name of any one of the loeal Directors, or of the Manager or Agent for the time being of the said Company, in this Island,” be, and the same is hereby repealed.

XXIV. And be it enacted, That ifany individual or association of* individuals shall at any time after the passing of this Act, desire to open a Bank of Discount, Deposit and Exchange with the Government Paper of this Island, it shall be the duty of such individual, or association of individuals, and he or they are hereby required to apply to the Legislature of this Island for an Act of Incorporation, such application to be accom- panied with a statement of the names, trade, or profes- sion, and place of residence of such individuals com- posing such association as aforesaid, who shall ar may make such application as above directed and required, together with a statement of the quantity of specie, and also of the nature and extent of the securities they pro- pose to deposit for said Government Paper as afore- Said.

AXV. And be it enacted, That it shall not be law- ful for any individual, or association of individuals residing im this Island, to issue or put into circulation, within the same, any private Draft or Drafts, or Pro- missory Note or Notes payable to bearer or payable to order, inthis Island, or made specially payable for the purpose of circulating as Bank Bills or Notes; and any individual or association of individuals residing in this Island as aforesaid, who shall issue of put into circula- sion within this Island, any private Draft or Drafts or Promissory Note or Notes payable to bearer, or pay- able to order in this Island, or made especially pay- able for the purpose of circulating as Bank Drafts, Bills, or Notes, contrary to the provisions of this Act, shall forfeit and pay a sum equal to the amount of such; Notes, Drafts or Bills, which shall have been go issued | or putinto circulation as aforesaid, the said forfeiture to be pud to the person or persons who shall sue for the «ime, and to be recovered by Bill, Plaint, or Informa-| tion in Her Majesty’s Supreme Court of Judicature of] this Island.

Election for Charlottetown and Royalty, I hasten to/

cowply with the wishes of my friends, though I assure them and the Electors generally, that the distinguished compliment was unlooked for and unmerited. Content with the humble sphere in which Providence has placed me, { have been always willing and ready to employ al! the influence I possessed in advocating those broad and liberal principles which I believe to be calculated to develope the resources of this young Colony, and to secure to its inhabitants a wise, just and impartial ad- ministration of its Government. But I beg to assure you, gentlemen, [ entertained on the present occasion, no ambition to go beyond that sphere, and occupy a position in the Legislature which could not fail to be more ably filled by another reflecting your views and opinions, yet I feel that I should be wanting in respect to myself and to those who have been kind enough to honour me with their countenance and confidence, if | continued to decline their invitation.

My political principles, I believe, are known to many of you. Suffice it to say, that, if returned, I shall be found upon all occasions to vote for the general interests of the Colony, and for those of my constitutents parti- cularly ; and I feel confident you will have no reason to question my integrity and consistency. !f not returned, lL shall be fully satisfied te resume my present private

NOTICE.

WHEREAS the Vessel now on the Stocks, near Kildare River Bridge, of 120 tons O. M., and put in frame by me during the Summer of 1847, under a contract with Mr. Thumas Caie, Trader, of Tignish, for the building of the same, which vessel was stopped in building in the autumn of the aforesaid year (1847) by the non-fulfilment of the contract on the part of Mr. Caie, he not having the means of completing the same ; and as it has come to my knowledge that the aforesaid Thomas Caie, instead of completing his agreement with me according to contract, has endeavoured to dispose of the vessel to several persons as his property, but could not succeed with the parties to whom he applied to, from a knowledge of the contract for byilding;—I do hereby give public notice, that all persons may govern themselves accordingly, that the aforesaid Thomas Caie has no power or authority from me to sell the aforesaid vessel, and that any person or persons found trespass- ing in the shipyard in my possession, either in meddling with the Vessel on the Stocks, the Timber, Plank, Knees, &c. in the Yard and Woods belonging to me,

will be prosecuted as the Law directs.
