A disease smletllilng similar to the above has appeared in several ranches in this province. Just what the cause is we cannot definitely 5mm. but it is probably some form of deficiency disease. The vitamins lacking may be vitamins A and D. made more necessary this season beccrise of the damp cold weather which filtered in through even the best protected sheds and made the interiors not the most habitable for young pups.

This could be corrected by put- ting in bedding such as clean straw or hay. by mending any cracks or holes and by the admin- istration of cod liver oil. preferably in the more concentrated forms. Paralysis of the hind parts has been noticed in some ranches and this may be due to the vitamin B deficiency. Brewers yeast flakes fed in proportion of one teaspoonful to five pups should overcome that trouble. There should be a. change of diet, good meat being fed in some proportion and if milk and eggs are available beaten up to- gether they form a good food and will help to bring back foxes that are pretty far gone and put them on their feet.

Sanitation methods will have to be looked after and clean utensils and fresh drinking water given which may or may not be further protected by the use of permangan- ate of potash solution which we re- commended last week. It was made by dissolving two drains of per- mariganate of potash crystals in four ounces of distilled water. Keep tightly corked and pour in sufficient 1n the drinking water to glva 1t a reddish color.

Apart from all other consider- ations of diet deficiencies and possibilities oi food poisoning it is a. fact that the months of May and June take the greatest toll of any months 1n the year on young 10x or mink life. Particular care. at this season oi the year will pay hi8 dividends by giving the youngsters s. good star-t in life. It is very re- grettable that this season when things look a great deal more favorable for us all that tlle pro- duction should be low on the aver- age and that quite a number of ranches have suffered losses due tn one oause or another. -
