sembly ofthis Island, made and passed in the Seventh Year oftheReign of His late Majesty King William the fourth, intituled An flat for levying on flssessment on all Land: in this Island—I do hereby publicly notify the owners or Occupiers of Land within this Island, for which the annual Assessment, charged thereon by the maid recited Act, of Four Shilling, lawful money ofthis island, for every Hundred Acres of wilderness or unim- roved Lands contained in the several Townships, and

,i 0 several Islands belonging thereto; and the sum of 'Two Shillings for every Hundred Acres of cultivated or

improved Land in the said several Townships and 1s- ‘Innds as aforesaid; and the sum of Four Shillings for each and every uncultivated or unimproved Town Lot, Pasture Lot Common Lot and Water Lot, granted in the Town and Iloyalty of Charlottetown; and the sum of Two Shillings for each and every cultivated or improved Town, Pasture, Common, and Water Lot as aforesaid ; and the sum of Two shillings and eight-pence for each and every Town Lot, Pasture Lot, and Water I..ot,grant- ad in the Towns and Ro alties of Georgetown and Princetown ; and the sumo One shilling and four-pence for each and every cultivated or improved Town, Pas- ture, and Water Lot, granted in the said last-mentioned Towns and Royalties, and so in proportion lbr a less quantity ; and the sum of One penny per acre on each and every acre of cultivated or improved Land in the iRoyaltv ofGeorgetown, called reserved Lands ; and the -sum of Two~pence per acre on each and every acre of such Lands as may be deemed uncultivated or unimpro- wed Lands, is payable, that unless the Assessment for the .current year be paid into in hands, or the hands of my Deputies, on or before the 'Izwenty‘second of December, 1840, I shall, on the last day ofthe next Hilary Term, at Charlottetown, make Proclamation of all such Lands as shall then be in arrear for non-payment of the sums charged thereon, agreeably to the directions ofthe said Act. .1. MOFFAT’S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES.

HESE Medicines are indebted for their . name to their manifest and sensible action in puri- fying the springs and channels oflifc, and enduing them with renewed tone and vigor. In many hundred c'er- tified cases which have been made public, and in almost ei'cry species of disease to which the human frame is liable, the happy effects of Mofl'at’s Life I’ills and Plienix Bitters have been gratefully and publicly acknowledged by all persons benefited, and who were previnusl unacquainied with the beautifully philosophical princio ples upon which they are compounded, and upon which they consequently act.

The Life Medicines recommend themselves in diseases ofevery form and deseliption. Their first operation is to loosen from the coats of the stomach and bowels. the various impurities and crudities constantly settling around them; and to remove the hardened faaces which collect in the convolusions of the small intestines. Other medicines only partially cleanse those, and leave such collected masses behind as to produce habitual costive- ness, with all its train of evils.or sudden diarrlicea, with its imminent dangers. This fact is well known to all regular aiiatomists, who examine the human bowels after death : and hence the prejudice of these well in- formed men against quack medicines—or tnedicines pre- pared and heralded to the public by ignorant persons. The second effect ofthe Life Medicines is to cleanse the kidneys and the bladder, and bv this means, the liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which entirely depends upon the regularity ofthe urinary organs. The blood, which takes its red color from the agency of the liver and the lungs, before it passes into the heart, being thus purified by them, and nourished by food coming from a clean stomach, courses freely through the veins, renews every part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the banner of health in the blooming cheek.
