- 17 at York, December 11 (JTR) , Purple Finch - 12 + at St. Eleanors earlier in the fall (NB) - approx. 12 from November 1 - 15, Cornwall (MF) Pine Grosbeak - 1 at Mount Stewart, November 30 (BCP) Pine Siskins - 14 at St. Eleanors, November 21 (NB) - 3 at Baldwin's Road, November 22 (GS) - 1 at Beaconsfield, November 27 (JTR) American Goldfinch - 4 at Alexander, November 10 & 11 (DM) - about 12 at Cornwall, November 15 - 17 (MF) White-winged Crossbill - 2 males and 4 females feeding on white spruce at Crowbush, November 10 (BB, JDM) Sharp-tailed Sparrow - 1 at Covehead, October 8 (RC) Northern Junco - 2 males & 1 female eating seed at Summerside, October 25 (MJC) - 1 at York feeder, December 8 (JTR) Fox Sparrow - 1 scratching in pine needles at Summerside on October 25 (MJC) Song Sparrow - 1 at feeder in York, December 8 (JTR) Snow Buntings - 50 birds in several flocks in grain field, Black Horse Corner, November 13 (LY, JDM) Sightings of Blue Jays and Black-capped Chickadees were common both at feeders and in the woods. Sightings of Hairy and Downy Hoodpeckers at suet feeders common. Black Duck and Common Merganser sightings were common.

Red.Squirrel - sightings picking up at feeders but few seen this fall in the woods and they were exhibiting low call frequencies in many areas (JDM).

Muskrat - 1 in stream at Cornwall, November 19 and December 1 (MF)

Red Fox - 1 at Beach Grove, December 6th (SC, GC)

Seals - 1 to 3 at North River causeway, nearly every day Nov. to mid-Dec. (MF)

Harbour Seal - commonly sighted at the Hillsborough Causeway in November (JDM)

Atlantic White-sided Dolphin - Fisheries staff herded 14 from the Hillsborough

River according to a news report the week of December 7th. Since the last

newsletter 2 more dead dolphins were reported washed ashore near the Dunk River

(CBC Radio reports).

Dandelion still in flower on November 5, 1990. (AS) Wild Rose Berries - tremendous crop in the inner dunes area of Dalvay.

Weather Note: This has been an unseasonably warm fall. As of December 19th, the day this section was completed, only a few days of snow cover had been experienced in Donagh and there was no snow left laying on the ground. In the Bonshaw hills and Miscouche there was up to 6 inches of snow last week. This fall, ponds have only been partly frozen over for a few days between November lst and December 9th.
