Tires Slashed, Truck Vandalized, SUV Urinated on En Masse

When going to a you should always feel safe about parking your car outside, yet after the Treble Charger concert held on September 25 a few people got a nasty surprise. It seems rowdy drunkards have to make their way through the parking lots in order to get to The Wave, and vehicles are becoming a casualty. These rowdy drunkards often are coming from Brown's Court and walk with what is known as a "roadie," or a drink to accompany the drinker on the road.

Upon approaching The Wave the drink containers are disposed of in drunken ways, sometimes thrown in the grass, or as in one case, near my vehicle, someone clumsily dropped a mason jar in the roadway. After every bar event the grass around the Student Centre is strewn with bottles of vari- ous sorts, and as anyone can attest to, when drunk, nothing is more satisfying than watching a bottle arch through the air, pause, then gracefully fall back down to earth. The exhilarating smash of a bottle is a great way to start an evening, and unless something is done about the lawlessness of the parking lots this form rowdyism will continue.

This rowdyism came to a peak on the night of Treble Charger. Several factors lead to this, the first being that it was a wet/dry event. Youths were outside drinking a whole evening's worth of intoxicants before entering the "dry" bar. And then when these minors entered The Wave they were informed that they had to be students at UPEI, and had to present student

ted young ns return outside, to reign over the night in a drunken stupor.

These factors combined with a perceived or real lack of security resulted in several acts of vandalism. The most noteworthy was the slashing of the front tires of a car, which was witnessed by an individual who identi- fied the get-a-way vehicle as a Jeep Laredo: This took place in the "Lot Under Construction," while in the Visitor's Parking lot a truck had a pas- senger-side door booted, resulting in a extremely large dent. And after the show I witnessed a group of extremely intoxicated guys walk to a SUV, and several of them urinated all over it while laughing and talking like a bunch of unsanitary cavemen.

What can be done about these

deplorable actions? First, more securi-

ty is needed to combat the mayhem of the corridor between Brown's Court and The Wave. Better lighting would help in the parking lots, which right now only have a dull yellow glow to them. But the biggest problem I feel is the same problem which has been said about the bookstore, which is that the entrance is inconveniently not facing the parking lots, which results in the parking lot being in the back of the bar. I personally feel too nervous to park there anymore if there is an event at The Wave, and feel a five minute walk is better then the risk of my car being molested by over-excited party goers.
