The €pirit of our Men. | -The spirit of the troops (the Times cor- ‘respondent says) is excellent, but the in- : tense heat is very trying. Water has been ‘found, fortunately, in several places on the march, the force literally wading ankle (deep in sand through the desert, and the ‘labor for mules and horses being very : heavy.

The conduct of the Horse artillerymen cannot be too warmly praised. Utterly ex- hausted with the toilsome march through the desert, and just as the sun began to be powerful, they were attacked in front and afterward in flank by at least guns of equal ‘calibre, all excellently served. It was ;wonderful how they could stand up so ‘long The drivers, however, when the gunners were exhausted, did the work of the latter and obtained for them a wel- come rest.

The call from the Vale Colliary and Sutherland’s River, to Rev. Dr. Murray, was then taken up. Rev. Mr. Blair was received as a Commissioner from the Pictou Presbytery, and from the aforesaid .con- gregation ; and Messrs. S. G. Lawson, A. B. McKenzie and Lemuel! Miller as Com- missioners from the congregation of Prince Street Church. The papers connected with the call were vead, and the Commissioners on both sides heard. From the pleading it appeared that the congregation calling Dr. Murray is cordial, harmonious and enthu- siastic, in their desire to secure his services; jit also appeated that the Prnice Street |Church is warmly attached to their pastor, and would most gladly retaiw his services. The Commissioners spoke in the highest terms of Dr. Murray's ability, of the great service he had rendered to the earse of edu- cation, of temperance, and to the Church generally during the thirty-three years of his ministry in this Provinee, and deplored his removal not easy to be repaired. The call wag then put into Dr. Murray's hands, when, after an able and feeling review of the history of education and of his ministry on this Island, in which he re- ferred in feeling te?ms to the kindness which he had received from his people and from his brethren in the ministry, he inti- mated his acceptance of the call to Suther- land River and Vale Coliiery. Th» Pres- bytery then, with feelings of deep regret, acquiesced in Dr. Maurray’s decision, severed the tie between him and his con- gregation, and transferred him to the Pres- bytery at Pictou, for induction into hia new field of labor.

Two cordial and unanimous calls to Mr, A. B. McLeod were received and sustained; one from the congregation of Cardigan and

other from Woodville and Little Sands, guaranteeing a salary of $650 with a free house and a glebe of 66 acres. These calls were placed in Mr. McLeod’s hands, and two weeks given for his decision.

Rey. A. F. Carr was appointed to moder- ate in a call to Mr, A. B. McLeod in the congregation of West Cape, Campbleton, and the Brae on 26th inst., at 11 o'clock, a. m., and Rey. C. Fraser to preach on the 17th inst., in Campbleton, at 11 o'clock West Cape at 2.30, and Brae at 7 o'clock, and give notice of said moderation. |.

Rev. Mr. Fraser was also appointed to preach on the 24th inst., at Lot 11, at 11 o'clock: at Tyne Valley, at 2.30; and Egmont Bay, at 6 30; and on Ist October, at Lot.14 at 11 o'clock, and Lot 16, at 3 o'clock.

Rev. K. Maclennan was appointed to preach on Sabbath, 17th instant, at Mon- tague Bridge, at 11 o'clock, Lower Mon- tague at 3 o'clock, and Georgetown at 6.30 o'clock.
