We regret very much that J. D. Enman, Station Master, at Summerside, was made the subject of an erroneous report 1p our “Summerside Notes” of last week. The report was certainly considered bana fide by Tue Examiner; and we can hardly believe that our correspondent would wilfully state that which he knew to be untrue. He was probably deceived by some local gossip, and will, no doubt, be more careful in the future.

If our contemporaries will insist on looking on the contest as involving Dominien issues, this result is at their service for consideration. A conrReRENCE of railway officials was held at St. John, N. B., on Wednesday. Among others the Intercolonial, P. E. Island avd Halifax and Cape Breton railroads were repre- sented. A numter of questions relating to railway matters was discussed, the principle one beiny the arrangement of the freight tariff between St. John and Boston, and the inten- tion to have faster express accommodations between those two points. The earnings on the St. John and Maine line, for April, 1882 were shown to be nearly double that of the previous year. After business had been dis- posed of, the meeting adjourned until the evening, when a dinner was given at the Royal Hotel. The dining hall had been hands somely decorated for the occasion with fl »wers and plants, and the large display of silver and glass added much to the brilliancy of the scene, Tenty five guests sat down to a tempting bill of fare, and thoroughly enjoyed the various luxuries previded. After dinuer anumber of toasts were made, and the re- | mainder of the evening was passed in speech- waking and singing, aud about midnight the party broke up.
