A race of fifty yards and return was run at Echo Park, Philadelphia, on Monday, between Frelerick Rogers, of Trenton, N. J., and L. C. ‘ mith’s mustang pony Ned, for a purse of $100. The race was won by the man by thirty yards. The pony was ridden by James Hinton, an English Jockey.

Globe says a large farmer's meeting was held at Rapid City on Thursday night. The railway monopoly and the high tariff were freely denounced, Rev. Mr. Crawford said, ‘‘If we are to be trodden by the other provinces, 1 would advise secession."’ The citizens Of Brandon also met on Thursday night, and endorsed the stand taken by the farmer's union, and deputations are being appointed in places all over the Province to attend a grand convention at Winnipeg, on Dec. 10,

Chinese Immigration.

Victor, B. C., Dec. 8.

The House has passed a resolution in- structing the Government to introduce a bill restricting Chinese immigration. The startling statement was made by the Pro- vincial Secretary. that there were three thousand destitute Chinese in the mainland who can only subsist by murdering and stealing, which they have already begun.
