Now, I ask, is all this characteristic of the schoolwork of Ontario? My ex- perie ce answers, no. Itis conspicuous by its absence. The work done is packing rather than development; parrotibm, than origioality. The memory is stuffed to the buisiing point; the other faculties largely leit dormant. No blame to the teacher. Here is a vast congiomerate programme of studies; yonder comes an eXamination. No ume for development. No time for mach self-reliant thinking, reasoning; this fudder must be bolted, Le the dyspepsia wiat itwill. High pressure, fever heat, hot haste, distraction, dissipation of everzy, disgust,—these words describe the system in operation.
