£1r,—The Hon. D. Gordon evades the real point at issue. It is nct whether the late Rev, OC. H. Spurgeon used tobacco why and to what extent, but whether le, used intoxicating liquors as a beverage. Some men may be open to the charge of hypocrisy and incogsiatency, but Mr, Spurgeon was not one of the number. As a matter of fact, two yeara pgo every stu. dent in Pastor's College, except one, took a pledge uf ivtal abstinence at the hands otf their President, Rev. C. H. Walker, furmerly widow of the late John Hall, Eeq , departed this life on Friday morning, the 22nd inst., and wes buried on Saturday, the 23rd, in the cemetery st St. John’s Church, Crapaud The mother of the deceased is still living and enjoying very good health in her 83rd year, She ean converse freely, and, her memory being good, can relate the voyage out from England, and remembers all on board the ship and everything that hap- pened during the passage.
