For several seasons now, at the first of every hoc- key season we hear from gloomy fans that, due to the loss of players from the previous players thro— ugh graduation or defecti- on, we will be lucky to win a game in the forth- coming M.I.H.Lo schedule. This year was certainly no exception. When players, who were expected to form our first line just weren't available, for some reason or other, the harbingers of doom were certain that this would be the BAD year that they had been‘fore— casting for several seasons. THESE FANS FORGET THAT ON P.E.Io WE BREED AND TRAIN HOCKEY PLAYERS...not that I mean to insinuate that we do not welcome and are not glad to have off-Isla— nders...but, when our sta- rs unexpectedly go to what seem like greener pastures, Vince just has to swallow hard a couple of times and‘ then start training a more\ locals.

Those who made the trip to SackVille and Moncton last week-end saw plenty of evidence that Mulligan 2” has done it again. On Sat. night our boys knocked off Mt. A., a team that had been strengthened over la— st year's good team and on Sun. we lost a real close game that saw the Blue Eagle winning and insur- ance goals being scored late in the third period. We feel that most of our players are young, with a good seasoning of exper— ienced veterans, and we should have a strong team for several seasons.(.. particularly so when after Christmas potential addit- ions are considered. BUT FOR HEAVEN'S SAKES BOYS WILL YOU PLEASE CONTINUE YOUR EDUCATION ON THIS SIDE OF NORTHUMBERLAND STRAIT!!!! It is getting so that every time we see a visiting team it seems like Old Home Week —— it's supposed to be in August!!

ludicrous at times when one of our player would straighten up to look an opponent in the eye...only to discover he was peering into his navel!!! We don't think we should issue cry- ing towels to spectators & players yet though...our team will be strengthened by the addition of some of the players who will now be available. We might al— so observe that, in a small university like UPEI our team, recruited largely from local boys, must sta— rt from scratch and rebui— ld quite often...experien— ce is a necessity and many of our players are just not used to the calibre of play in the Intercollegiate level. We'll be up there after a bit. 35 we might also add that,

WINNING, while more pleas; ant than losing, still iS' not EVERYTHING. We have no respect for the type of fan who cheers for and fo— llows only the team that can stay on top. We belie— ve that if you are a Pant- her fan...then you shoul cheer for and encourage Panther teams...not just WINNING Panther teams...

it is a long road that has no turns in it and we are certain that the fan who remains loyal to a losing team gets more sat— isfaction out of a sport
