The discovery of an extensive seam of bituminons coal within ten miles of Vic- teria, B. C., was announced on the 3rd, Two hundred and fifty immigrants landed at Victoria, B. C., on the 2nd. The Armenian authorities are taking vigorous measures to suppress lawlessness and terrify these who are banded together in what are believed to be an organization for the destruction of life and property. Of fifty persons lately proven to be members of the secret society there, five have been sentenced to hfe-long servitude, twenty have been condemned to imprisonment for 15 years and the remaining 25 sentencei to yreater or lees severity according to the weight of evidence implicating them.

Roger Amirault, the French Canadian who has been arrested at Digby, N. 8., on suspicion of having murdered Mrs. Etta Carlton, at Watertown, Maas., in March last, is the same man who was seen on the train between New Brunswick and Bangor, Me., by a personal friend, who denied his identity when spoken ty». Althongh Amirault has his moustache shaven off this man positively identified him. Amirault went through to St. John and there took the steamer for Dighy, N. S., where he ar- rived ten days after the murder. He was arrested there a few days since at the re- quest of Boston officers, to await extradi- tion. He had previously been employed at various places in the vicinity of Watertown. He disappeared shortly after the murder. He tells conflicting stories of his where- abouts at the time and of his travels since.
