An uneasy feeling prevails throughout Germany that the massing of troops on the Austrian frontier, the beatowal of the Order of St. Andrew on President Carnot and the resumption of Russian intrigues in the Balkan Peninsular are symptoms which, taken in connection with each other, amount to a Russian demonstration of hostility to the German Empire. The Berlin Bourse is sensibly affected by the prevalence of this feeling.
Prince Ferdinand’s commission as Governor of Roumelia expires on April 5, when Tu: key ean aefuse to renominate him, but is not likely to do eo while Stambuloffie premier. This probably explains the attempt on the latter's life, as his death would have enabled Russia to interfere.
It is reported that a note bas been issued by M. de Giers, the Russian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, forerunning the intention of Russia to intervene in the kans. This circamstance, says the Gazette, combined with the demonstrative massing of Russian troops on the frontier, is looked upon as a sign of the approach of critical days in Eastern Europe.
The Pesther Lioyd says: ‘‘We stand at the beginning of another great movement on the part of Russia, which will probably open with a protest against the reapp intment of Ferdinand as Gove'nor of Roumelia. It is time that the dreibund should consider how long it wiil continue to aliow Russia to make misivary preparations.”

The Count was tormery the Austro-Hungarian Ambassaior to Zogiand and recognized as the leading statesman of Austria. The young man’s name is given in the German peerage as Count George Karolyi. A cable despatch publish-d Jan. 24 last from Buda Pesth, stated that young Karolyi was then in Boston, from which place he had written to the Cuunt that, having no hope of reconciliation or pardun for his escapade, he had decided to remain

A shell from the forts struck the O'Higgins and went clean through her. Another shell cavsed a gun on her quarter-deck to ex- plode. God never framed one law of responsibility for the old and another for the young ; and never are men 80 responsi- ble, never are they 80 worthy or unworthy, never so royally justified or so fearfully condemned, as when their brains are the best, their bodies the strongest, and the current of their life at its fullest flood and
flow.
How to Take Life. Take life like a man. Take it just as though it was--as it is—-an earnest, vital, essential affair. Take it just as though you personally were born to the task of per- ‘orming a merry part in it—as though the world had waited for your coming. Take it as though it was a grand opportunity to do and to achieve, to carry forward great and good schemes; to help and cheer «# suffering, weary, it may be heartbroken, brother. The fact is, life ia undervalued by # great majority of mankind, It is not made half as much of as should be the case. Where is the man, or woman, who accom- plishes one tithe of what might be done 7 Who cannot look back upon opp rtuntties lost, plans, unachieved, thoughts c . aspirations unfulfilled, and all caused from the lack of the necessary and possible effort! If we knew better how to take and mske the most of life, it would be far greater than it is. Now and then a man stands aside from the crowd, labors earn. estly, steadfastly, confidently, and straight- way becomes famous for wisdom, intellect, skill, greatness of some sort. The world wonders, admires, idolises ; and yet it only Jlustrates what each may do if he takes hold of life with » purpose. if» man but say he will, and followa it up, there is nothing in reason he may not expect te accomplish. There is no magic, uo mir- acle, no secret to him who is brave in
heart and determined in spirit.
