Tue Magxets.—The attendance at the market to-day was smell and trade slow. Eggs were scarce at 20 cents per dozen, Butter sold at 19 to 21 cents per lb. Geese brought from 50 <to 60 cents each, and turkeys from 70 to $1 00 each. Hay was in emall sepply at 60 to 60 cents per 100 Ibe, Oats still hold at 33 to 34 cents per bushel, ‘Turnips 12 to 14 cents per bushel.

Tue Brrrrania.—A Halifax despatch says : The tug Underwriter with lighters has suc- ceeded in floating the steamer Kritannia off, into and up the passage leading through be- tween the igland and the mainland. The steamer will be grouaded at some suitable place near Barriagton, and divers will be em ployed to make temporary repairs to the bot- tom, to get her eafely removed to a dry dock. The object struck by the Britannia has been ascertained to have been the wreck of the ,teamer Salina, which lies two and a half miles , utheast of Cape Sable.

Six Feer or Ssow.—The train that lef Calgary for Eimonton yesterday morning returned to Calgary last evening. Betwees twenty-five and thirty miles out it encoun- tered heavy snow drifts six feet in depth, through whieh it could not force a passage. Tho snow was so solidly packed that the pilot of the locomotive was broken in the effort. Buck is to be hanged on Thursday, Ist of December, at Dorchester. Radciiffa, the Toronto public haugman, expects to have the job. It is understood the execu. tion will take place io the interior of the jail as there is no ground attached to the prison where any privacy could be obtained The condemned man has lost his buoyancy of spirit and approaches death in a rather sulky mood and the apparent indifference hitherto shown is now passing away.

GODFREY KNOCKED OUT

In the Fifteenth Round.

New York, Nov. 1.

The fight between Choyinski and George Godfrey last night attracted a large crowd. Both men entered the ring looking io splendid condition. Up to the end of the fourth round there was some hard fighting, but either seemed to have any advantage. From the fourth to the end of the twelfth round Choyinski got in some good work, but Godfrey reciprocated in the eighth. The men were even up to the ninth round, Considerable sparring was indulged in up to the i2ch round, whea Godfrey got in two stinging blows on Choy- inski, knocking him down. The Californian was soon on his feet again and began to punish the Bostonian, whom he knocked out in the fifteenth round.

Choyinski will prvvably challenge the winner of the Goddard. Maher fight, which takes place early in December.

Gigantic Financial Sensation.

The collapse of the Liberator Building Society simu'tsneously wich the downfall of the London aud General Bank will likely prove one of the most gigantic financial sensations of the generation. Figures pre- sented at the meeting of sharehulders and creditors of the Loberater Si cie'y by the ofticial receiver show: the S ciety owed shareholders and er di-ore £3,313 000, with a reserve fund of only £90,000, auc lit: Je more than a mere bock entry at that. The mo t- gages amounted to £3,423,000. An inv 3 tigation will probably prove them value- less. As £3,188,286 are lent to three com- panies now in liquidation, there are virtu- ally no free assets, and only £50,000 in sight to meet a deficit of £36,000,
