Wuy was the election in the Second District of Queen's put off until after the recent session of the Legislature? This is &@ question that ought to be addressed to Premier Farquharson at every public meeting held throughout the campaign

If acted upon at that time the Second District of Queens would not have gone unrepresented in the Legislative Assembly, But then, Pineau would not have held the balance of power and the Farquharson Government would not now be in office!

METHODIST CONFEREN CE

At Monday’s cession of the conference at Moncton the report of the committee on Sabbath observance was submitted and adopted without discussion. It urges the hetter observance of the aay’ suggests tbat eech minister be requested to preach some time during the conferential year at least one sermon on the subject of Sabbath observance.

The secretary-treasurer of the St. James’ Church relief fund reported thar the confereuce had coatributed $1900 to the fund.

The report of the committee oa the state of church work expressed pleasure with the responee to the appeal for funds ; aleo'the'spiritual progress shown in the Bp worth Leaguse,ing flouri-h Sunday schools and attendance oo public worship; bat regretted the small decrease in church

membership. The committee discoun- tenanced the use of § s:nsational methods to secure revivals.

Some objection was taken to the latter stetement, and also toano intimation in the report that there was some neglect in baptising invalids and children. The re- port wes referred back to com aittee for amendment.

The report of the Union Church relief fund showed $!03 39 as receipte, of which the Charlottetown district co.tributed $'6.77 and the Summerside district $8.48.

The report of the temperance committee wes agaio discussed, along the same lines as Saturday, as to whether it was best to accept provincial probibition or continue. to press forthe larger measure for the whole Domiuion.

The Sunday School rerort showed that, Charlottetown district had 31 schools with 1974 acholars and the Summerside Diss trict had 32 schools with 1781 scholars. Charlottetown Dietrict contributed for missions $467 02, and for schools $609.22. Summerside District contributed 6619 for missions and $433.47 for schools,

Mr. W.E. Dawson was elected toa committee to confer with the Nova Scotia Conference in regard to supernumerary matters,

The supernumerary fund report was read. To this fund Charlottetown district contributed $194.50, and Summerside dis- trict $169.60.

The sustenation fund was reported de creased for the firet time in its history. The total thie year was $2,232.

The conference meets at Maryeville pext year ou the third Thursday in June.

A GOOD BIT OF WORK.

Very noticeable in the Jatier is the straigbtenirg of a piece of road near Lake Verd, Lot 48. This bas not only been o very bad picce of road, but an eye-sore for years. Owing, bowever, tothe p-rsistent efforta and the keep-to<itiveress of Charles Myers, Eeq , Lake Verd, the powers that be were convinced of the necessity of straightening this curve, and induced to bave the work sold at public auction last fall, the road to be completed by Jaly, 1800. The bid fell to Mr. Myere’s eon James, for $10900. We should judge the new road to be fifteen chains long. It had to be bruehed from one to three feet deep, sixteen feet wide, and covered with clay one foot deep. Owing to a large flow of water there had to bea bridge putia. This could oct be bails for much lesa than
