Art of Putting on a Stamp.

‘When you put a postage stamp or an envelope,” said a precise man to his son, ‘‘you should put it on square and true, inthe upper right-hand corner, | and as near as possible tothe margin of | the envelope. You put it on at the right-hand corner for the convenience of the stampers in the Post Office, sc that it may be uniform in location with the stamps on other envelopes and so more conveniently and expeditious- ly stamped; you should study the com: fort of others as well as yourself. You should put it as near as possible to the corner, so that the canceling stamp wil! be less likely to deface and so perhaps obscure the address on the ermvelope.

For instance, inthe feeding of roots it is | thought by a great many farmers that

turnips are One great e-senttal, when, a’ the same time, it is well-known that if the farmers are allcwed to feed them in whatever manner they please, it will so affect the flavor of the butter as to keep it ip an inferior place on the British market to the Danish and Anstralasian butter made by a people who have molera.zed their way of feeding. Farmers should try and get into the way of growing mangels, carrots and those roots which will not atfect the flavor. Another important p int that came up for discussion was the disre- gard which 1s generall; paid to cleanliness in the keeping of stables and cattle, and

milk being atfected with a very unnatural flavor. These matters were thought to be of so serious nature as to call for imme- diate action on the part of our association, and all other associations in the line of finding oat and applying aremedy. After some discursion, it was agreed that this Association take active measurcs in regard to cleanliness, by organizing a system of stable inspection. Consequently, the undersigned committee were appointed to draft re olutions which should govern the working of such a scheme, the same to be brought forward at the next night of meeting, and after action having been

We, the members cf Excelsior Dairying Association, desiring to further the inter-

ests of the dairying industry on this Island, | are of the opinion that, in order to secure |

the highest price for our products on the foreign market, great care should be taken to produce an article of the very best quality.

We are of the opinion, further, that, in order to attain thie end, more attention should be given to the care of the mileh cows and stables than is now given by most farmers, and that a system of stable mspection would be very beneficial in remedying the evil.

Coquelin and Faure, M. Coquelin, who in his time has play- ed so many parts, is made to appear in the new one of a sort of king maker by some of the French papers. But for him, it is said, the present President of the French republic would never have aitain- ed to his elevated position. It was in this wise: Twenty years ago M. Felix Feure, then a respectable tradesman at Havre, used to run up to town now and then, and when he did he seldom failed to go to the Comedie Francaise. In the green room, to which he obtained access through a friend, he made the acquaintance of M. Coquelin. The actor, as is well known, was one of M. Gambetta’s most intimate friends. One day M. Coquelin said to M. Faure—Come and me between the first and second acts, and I will intro- duce you to some one who will be in- terested to know you.’’ The *‘some one’’ was M. Gambetta, who afterward induc- ed M. Faure to enter upon a parliamen- tary career, and helped him forward ig it.—Tid-Bbits.
