Siz, —[ have been informed that papers sent out by the Conservative party to the post offices at Hsmpton, Tryon and Augustiue Cove were not delivered to the parties when called for; and as those offices keep huckster shops in connection, that the paper is now being used for wrapping. This state of affairs is wrong, aud should not exist. Postmasters should do their duty no matter what their political creed may be.

Carier’s Prize Prolific Barley.

In February, 1890, the Government of Canada, on the recommendation of the Hon. the Minister of Agriculture, made provision for the importation of 10,006 bushela of two-rowed barley from Kngland, to be sold to the farmers in Canada for seed, This was imported in 5,000 bags of 112 lbs. each, the “Prize Prolific” being the variety chosen for the purpose, and this barley was offered at the cost of importa- tion, $4 per bag, the Government paying freight charges to the nearest railway sta- tion to the purchaser. By this arrange- ment, farmera in every part of the Do- minion obtained the barley at a umferm price, but one bag only was available to each individual. This restriction was made at the outset so as to secure a wider distri- bution for the grain, and prevent a too rapid exhaustion of the stock, so that ap- plicants from distant portions of the Do- minion might not be disappointed. This limitatation lessened the sales, and as svon as it was aacertained that the barley on hand would be more than sufficient to meet the demand on the basis of one bag only for each purchaser, the restriction was withdrawn. About 3,200 bigs were sold to 2,600 purchasers, leaving nearly 1,300 bags on hand.

ing stock at three dollars per bag, freight prepaid to the nearest railway station to the purchaser, with no restrictions as to the number of bags which any individual may buy All orders must be accompanied by a remittance sufficient to cover the amount of the order. The applications will be entered as received and the orders filled in rotation as long as the stock holds out.

The germ nating power of this barley has been fes‘ed in ten samples t ken trou different bags, the average vitality 1s 90 per cont , and the growth stroog.
