Yrsrerpay a woman who lives in the vicinity of the gas works left her apartments to carry a lunch to her husband, who was working a short distance from the place. While she was absent some person or persons, as yet unknown, entered her house and stole therefrom $8 in cash and a large quantity of woolen stockings.

YESTERDAY EVENING some unknown mis- creant poured a quantity of blue paint into | the pump on Queen street, opposite George Davies & Co.’s store. Fortunately the mischief was discovered and the handle taken from the pump. Had it not been discovered befere nightfall and were water drawn from the pump and used, ‘very ser- ious consequences would doubtless have followed. A Carty Run Over. —Last evening a chia! named Miaservey residing in Long Street, was run over at the corner of that Street and Spring Park Road, by @ countryman. The driver never stopped, but drove only. the faster and disappeared, He is known how- ever, and may yet have to appear on charge of reckless driving. The peor child was taken into its parents residence. The habit of racing on the streets, and <urning the corners short and in a careless manner, 1S altogether too prevalent, and the police should be on the alert for offenders of this class.
