Story of the Establiskhnient of the Firat Chureh at Dawson City.

Two missionaries were, last August sent to the Klondike by the Presbyterian board of home missions. A letter has jist been received by Dr. McMi lun, corresponding secretary of the board, from these missiou~ aries—the Rev. A. Hal) Young, and Dr. W.A. McEwen. The letter is trom Daw- eon City, and is dated Dec. 1. It was carried from Dawson City to the pearest Output of civilization by Jim- my Jackeon, an Indian, who has a record for going where no other man can go. The

Sir,—-In yesterday’s Examixer I notice Councillor Hooper calls on me to suswer the following questions :

Whether he ever put one laboreron the streets, or in any way used his position as a Councillor to induce any of the citv employes to deal with him ?

Now, Sir, I wish to state the rule has invariably been that laborers are engaged by me as chairman of the street committee and in most cares [ bave given written orders to the City Surveyor.

Iam not’aware of any case in which Councillor Hooper has used his influence as above stated.

I may further stete, in reply to insinua- tions in the press and statements elsewhere, that I never used my influence as chairman of the street commitiee in Councillor Hooper’s interest either by employing laborers or discLarging the same.
