Aceipent.—A poor man named Heron, be- longing to the city, had his leg broken below the knee on Saturviay last. He was taken to the Hospital on Tuesday evening.

One rather important feature is the Directory, which gives the name, resi dence, business ani Post Office address and place of nativity of every patron of the work —in a word, of all the principal inhabitants of the Island. The printing of this part was done by Messrs. Bremner Bros., and itis al- most needless to say that it is well done.

Mr. Joun Cavex, the editor and pro- prietor of the Churloffetown Herald, and ** Deputy Assistant Professor of Prince of Wales College,” does not think it beneath him to manufacture and then to exhibit to his friends and others a bogus telegraphic message purporting to be froma Minister at Ottawa, to the effect that the R. M. Steamship Sarmatian had been detained at Londonderry for Senator Car- vell. The message closed with the words **don’t publish.” But the idea once con- ceived became unmanageable in the second assistant Professor. Nature had to take its

course. The second assistant Professor swelled with it, and flnally became so big with it that he must .** write or bust.” Hence the leader in yesterday’s issue of the Charlottetown Herald. We are sorry for Senator Carvell. Mr. John Caven, the second assistant Professor of Prince of

False Reports.

Sir,—It is to be much regretted that there exists in Charlottetown a certain class of per- sons who appear, from all accounts, to take special delight in spreading reports injurious to the characters « of their fellow beings, re-

rts which have not the slightest foundation infact. Within the last six weeks the Uhar- lottetown gossips have been very busy in “‘gividg wind” to a most injurious and scandalous report in connection with a very respectable tamily well known by our citizens, a report which is as contemptible as itis false, and as false asit is contemptible. From what data this report was manufactured would puzzle even ‘‘ the father of lies” to determine.

If I were a member of the family in ques- tion I would sift this report to the very bottom and leave no stone unturned until I had suc- ceeded in bringing the originator to justice.

** The tongue is a little member, and _boast- ** eth great things. Beholkl how great a mat- ‘“‘ter a little fire kindleth!”’ ‘And the ‘‘ tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity.” “‘It **is an unruly evil, full of deadiy poison.’

‘‘ But if ve have bitter envying and strife **in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against ‘the trath.” ‘‘ The fruit of righteousness is **gown in peace of them that make peace.”

Hanging Up Coats.

A heavy garmont, like an overcoat, .if hung by the loop at the back of the collar, will soon stretch out of shape by its own

weight. To avoid this, various devices have been made, some of wire, and others | ef wood. A piece of hardwood, long } enough to reach from the outside of one sleeve to that of the other, will answer the purpose; it should have a hole bored through the center, or a loop of strong

cord to hang it by upon the nail or hook. Undercoats and vests may be hung in the same way. For the ‘“‘best suit” this little matter is of considerable importance to all who desire their back of the neck, shape.
